Yahoo DFS Baseball: Thursday Playoff Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Playing DFS in the MLB playoffs will only get harder the more teams roll with openers instead of starters. That's the case on this slate, as there are only three possible pitchers to use, as Milwaukee is going with their bullpen. For my recommendations, I combined recent success and situational success to come up with a cheaper, balanced group.

PITCHER

Hyun-Jin Ryu, LAD vs. ATL ($40): Ryu gets the start in Game 1 and he comes at a great price, meaning he'll be on the majority of rosters. He's allowed just 12 hits and one run in his last three starts, reaching 20 fantasy points in all of them. The Braves also don't present an overly difficult matchup with a 22.0 K percentage and .313 wOBA against southpaws in the last month.

Antonio Senzatela, COL at MIL ($28): If you can afford him, it probably makes more sense to use Mike Foltynewicz ($49) since he'll at least strike out batters. There are some positives to Senzatela in that he's only allowed one run in each of his last three starts, and while the Brewers are hitting well, the Dodgers still have better overall numbers against righties in the last month.

CATCHER

Yasmani Grandal, LAD vs. ATL ($14): Grandal has two career homers (one in July) in only six at-bats against Foltynewicz, making him an easy play at catcher. Throw in a .240 ISO and .361 wOBA against righties this year and the other options can't compare.

FIRST BASE

Max Muncy, LAD vs. ATL ($19): Muncy doesn't have a hit in three career at-bats against Foltynewicz, but it's hard to deny what he's done against righty arms with a .486 OBP in his last 72 plate appearances and .417 wOBA for the season. Even better is that Muncy has three homers against Atlanta's staff in only 18 at-bats, and Foltynewicz has a worse 4.01 xFIP against lefties.

SECOND BASE

DJ LeMahieu, COL at MIL ($18): LeMahieu wasn't as efficient on the road, but he oddly showed more power away from Coors Field with a .193 ISO compared to .116 at home. He was also one of Colorado's only bats with a decent OBP (.357) at Miller Park this season in 14 plate appearances.

THIRD BASE

Justin Turner, LAD vs. ATL ($19): Turner has more pop against lefties, but there are a few reasons to use him in this spot. In addition to a solid .384 OBP and .377 wOBA against righties, he rarely strikes out with a 12.1 K percentage, and that's one of Foltynewicz' strong suits with a 26.8 K percentage.

SHORTSTOP

Orlando Arcia, MIL vs. COL ($9): If you have money, go with the top shortstops, but that likely means you'll have to punt at a couple other positions. Arcia had four hits on Monday and has hit safely in his last nine. As for Senzatela, he's been worse against righty bats with a .345 wOBA allowed. On the high end, Trevor Story ($21) could be worth the money with seven homers in 27 at-bats against Milwaukee pitching.

OUTFIELD

Yasiel Puig, LAD vs. ATL ($19): Puig closed the regular season on a nice run, sporting a .418 OBP and low 9.1 K percentage in 55 plate appearances against righties. He also had a .267 ISO for the season, which goes well with his .412 OBP against the Braves in 16 PA.

Ryan Braun, MIL vs. COL ($15): While Braun's overall numbers are better against southpaws, he's been better at home against righties with a .215 ISO and .359 wOBA. That's a useful stat against Senzatela, who has a 1.42 HR/9 and 4.49 xFIP when facing righty bats.

Carlos Gonzalez, COL at MIL ($10): Gonzalez isn't guaranteed to start, but there's no denying he was Colorado's most consistent bat in Milwaukee this season with a .462 OBP in 13 plate appearances and a home run. It's also nice that he's not a complete black hole against lefties with a .165 ISO, which could come in handy against the Brewers bullpen.
