Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Saturday's main MLB slate features 11 games and begins at 7:05 PM Eastern time. Below, you'll find which individual pitchers and hitters are primed to provide the best value, as well as the top lineup stacking options in this slate.

Pitching

There's no shortage of high-level arms to choose from in this one, with 10 pitchers priced at $40 or more set to take the mound.

Madison Bumgarner ($47) has turned it on after a slow start, posting a 3.23 ERA and 3.33 FIP along with a 91:18 K:BB in 92 innings over his last 15 starts. He should keep rolling at home against a Marlins' offense that averages a league-low 3.43 runs per game on the road.

Another standout from that group is Jack Flaherty ($51) of the Cardinals, who will be at home against a Christian Yelich-less Brewers team and boasts a minuscule 0.76 ERA along with 89:17 K:BB in 71.1 innings of work since the All-Star break.

Owners looking for a more affordable option should turn to Arizona's Merrill Kelly ($31), who comes in with a solid 3.50 ERA, .296 wOBA against and 81:15 K:BB over 82.1 innings at home. He'll take on a bottom-10 Reds' offense after striking out nine Padres over seven shutout innings in his last home start.

Key Values/Chalk

The Rockies, Padres and Mariners are all primed for success in favorable matchups and offer a nice mix of premium sluggers and bargains, but there's plenty of value to be found outside of those three stackable lineups.

Astros' second baseman Jose Altuve ($20) represents one of the best in the business against left-handed pitching with a .469 wOBA. He gets a nice opportunity to raise that mark even further against Royals' southpaw Mike Montgomery with his 4.77 ERA and 5.11 FIP.

Rays' outfielder Austin Meadows ($25) should be worth paying up for, as his wOBA against righties is nearly .400 and he'll face a vulnerable one in Jaime Barria of the Angels, who has struggled to a 6.14 ERA and 5.68 FIP.

Diamondbacks' catcher Alex Avila ($7) could be a gem at the minimum price for penny-pinching owners. His home wOBA against righties sits over .400, while visiting starter Anthony DeSclafani has surrendered a .403 wOBA to batters from the left side on the road this season.

Stacks

Rockies vs. Padres (LHP Eric Lauer)

Nolan Arenado (3B - $27), Ian Desmond (OF - $15), Trevor Story (SS - $20)

Lauer's 19.73 ERA at Coors Field registers as the worst among all pitchers with at least three starts there, and a Rockies lineup that loves to mash lefties should find further success against him at the league's most hitter-friendly venue with a 1.41 park factor. Arenado sports a .413 wOBA against lefties that climbs to .483 at home, Desmond's .392 mark in that split increases to .432 at Coors Field, and Story's overall home wOBA comes in at .425.

Padres at Rockies (RHP Peter Lambert)

Greg Garcia (2B - $10), Eric Hosmer (1B - $17), Nick Martini (OF - $15)

It's not all bad for the Padres, as their offense should help keep the team in it even as Lauer's likely to struggle. Lambert owns a 6.86 ERA through 17 starts, and left-handed hitters have a .416 wOBA against the rookie righty. Garcia leads off against righties and has produced a .366 wOBA against them on the road, so he should provide nice bang for the buck. Hosmer has hit 19 of his 20 home runs this season against righties, and his road wOBA against them exceeds .350. Martini also enjoys the platoon advantage as a left-handed slugger and a wOBA north of .350 against righties.

Mariners vs. White Sox (RHP Dylan Cease)

Kyle Seager (3B - $26), Daniel Vogelbach (1B - $12), Omar Narvaez (C - $10)

Left-handed hitters have managed a .393 wOBA against Cease, who brings a 6.53 ERA, 5.50 FIP and 2.03 HR/9 into this one. The Mariners have no shortage of options from that side to throw at Cease. Seager has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the past month, with an OPS over 1.1 dating back to Aug. 13. Vogelbach has recorded a .361 wOBA against righties and hit 25 of his 30 home runs in that split. Narvaez comes in as a solid choice to fill the catcher position in this favorable matchup, as he bats cleanup and owns a respectable .348 wOBA against righties.
