Nick Greenwood: Signs minor league deal with Cubs
Greenwood signed a minor league contract with the Cubs on Wednesday, MLB Trade Rumors reports.
ANALYSIS
Greenwood, a 14th-round pick in 2009, appeared in one major league game last season, allowing two runs without recording an out. In 2014, he posted a 4.75 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 36 relief innings. His control is impeccable, as Greenwood walked just 1.7 batter per nine innings in Triple-A last year, but hitters have teed off on him, as he allowed 16 home runs in 129 innings and struck out just 60 batters. Unless his stuff improves significantly, Greenwood just can't match up with major league hitting.

2015 Fantasy Outlook
At age 27, Greenwood got his first taste of major league baseball, making one start and 18 relief appearances for the Cardinals while posting a 4.75 ERA in 2014. The lefty provides some organizational depth for the Cardinals, but doesn't miss many bats and isn't likely to be more than a middle-relief pitcher for St. Louis. He'll probably spend time between Triple-A Memphis and St. Louis again in 2015, and he is unlikely to have much fantasy value in even the deepest of leagues.
