Wright's multiple arm surgeries in 2004, including a Tommy John procedure that will keep him out of action for all of this season, finally convinced the White Sox to give up on him. There'll be no Jon Lieber-like golden parachute for the likes of Wright. He'll have to claw his way back to the majors after he heals up.
Wright lost the first month of the season with elbow soreness and never recovered, winning just one game all year. Without Jerry Manuel around to question his toughness and mess with his head, he's got another chance to get his career back on track, but it will almost certainly be his last chance with the Sox.
Wright's first full year in the rotation can't be considered a success, but it wasn't exactly a failure either. His strikeouts jumped while his walks and hits allowed dropped, and that has to count for something. He pitched a shutout too, against the Rangers in May. That said he still gives up too many home runs and a 136/71 K/BB ratio isn't exactly Cy Young material. If you have a reserve list, be patient with him. If you don't, let someone else take the risk.
