How does Jake Barrett compare to other relievers?
This section compares his stats with all relief pitcher seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 30 innings)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity, Barrels/BBE %, Balls Hit 95+ MPH %, and Spin Rate are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 30 IP). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2014
2009
Barrett started the 2016 season in the middle of the Arizona bullpen but found himself thrust into a more prominent role following the trades of Tyler Clippard and Brad Ziegler. The promotion didn't go well as Barrett finished with more blown saves (five) than converted saves (four). August was particularly brutal, as Barrett posted a 9.00 ERA and 2.36 WHIP across 11 innings. However, the young righty showed signs of life in the season's final full month, tossing 9.2 scoreless innings in September with seven strikeouts. That's admittedly a small sample size, but it could help him in the battle for primary setup duties entering 2017. Daniel Hudson, Randall Delgado and Enrique Burgos all figure to be in the mix for the job in front of Fernando Rodney.
Barrett is a potential future closer in Arizona. His 2013 was split between High-A and Double-A, where he posted a nasty 1.21 combined ERA. His fastball and control make him a prototypical fireman, but he needs more seasoning in professional baseball before he can be considered a threat for the ninth-inning role in Arizona. Expect him to end up in Triple-A at some point during the season.
Drafted by the Jays in 2009, but did not sign.
