Luis Escobar

Escobar pitched in short-season West Virginia's rotation last summer as a 20-year-old, and established himself as one of the Pirates better low-level arms. The right-hander registered a 2.93 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 67.2 innings, compiling a 61:28 K:BB. He features a fastball in the low-90s and showed improved command as the season progressed. Escobar walked 16 batters (with 48 strikeouts) in his final 55 innings after issuing 12 free passes in his first 12.2 innings. Expect the 6-foot-1, 160-pound Columbian to make the step to full season ball in 2017. The four-pitch pitcher will look to continue improving his command as he doesn't possess a wipeout pitch, leaving him with a mid-rotation ceiling.
