Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

PITCHER

Carlos Carrasco, CLE vs. TB ($56): There aren't a ton of pitching matchups that stand out Monday, which is why Carrasco is an easy play. The righty has coasted in the early season, hitting at least 22 fantasy points in all but one of his starts and 36 in two of his last four. Tampa Bay has a decent wOBA (.323) against righties, but also the worst K rate (26.0 percent). Making this selection easier is that the Indians are one of the bigger favorites of the day.

Jesse Chavez, LAA vs. CWS ($32): With Carrasco on the high end, Chavez fills the low-end need. He comes with some liabilities, having allowed nine runs in his last three starts, but he's also hit at least 15 fantasy points in three of his last four outings. With the White Sox being at the bottom of the league with a .278 wOBA against righties, Chavez should reach that mark again, especially with Chicago also being one of the worst in K rate (23.8 percent).

CATCHER

Tyler Flowers, ATL at TOR ($15): Catcher is a bit sparse so I'll spend a little more on Flowers, who's in a nice spot. He's been great against righties this season with a .414 wOBA and faces Michael Bolsinger, who's making his second start of the season. The Blue Jays got Bolsinger off waivers at the beginning of the year, so he's nothing special as seen in his first start, walking four and giving up a couple runs in 5.2 IP.

FIRST BASE

Freddie Freeman, ATL at TOR ($27): Banking off the hope that Bolsinger can't provide a quality start again, Freeman is the guy to own from Atlanta. His .494 wOBA and .408 ISO against righties can't be beat by many and his rather low K rate (15.3 percent) is what makes him a safe pick. Bolsinger hasn't pitched much over the last two seasons, but has allowed a .361 wOBA against lefties in his short career dating back to 2014.

SECOND BASE

Ryan Goins, TOR vs. ATL ($10): On the other side of Bolsinger, a struggling Bartolo Colon takes the mound after giving up 23 runs in his last four starts to go with just 12 strikeouts. Colon is allowing a .375 wOBA to lefties and has a fairly bad 4.96 xFIP. Goins probably won't go off, but he at least has low K rate (14.7 percent) against righties and has been slightly better against them with a .301 wOBA.

THIRD BASE

Jake Lamb, ARI vs. NYM ($16): After a slow stretch, Lamb has come around lately with eight hits in his last four games. That's reason enough to take him against Zack Wheeler, who has been inconsistent this season, most recently walking eight and striking out eight in his last two starts. Most of Lamb's damage comes against righties so this is a good spot for his .396 wOBA and .247 ISO.

SHORTSTOP

Andrelton Simmons, LAA vs. CWS ($9): Going cheap at shortstop isn't a terrible idea when Mike Pelfrey is on the mound. The righty hasn't done many positive things this season outside of not getting completely shelled. He's made it at least four innings in all four of his starts, but has just six strikeouts and is allowing a .402 wOBA to righties. Simmons hasn't been great – which is why his price is low – but his numbers are slightly better against righties with a .299 wOBA.

OUTFIELD

Jay Bruce, NYM at ARI ($20): As long as Bruce's price isn't over the top, I'll continue using him against righties. He has a .446 wOBA and .361 ISO against them this season and I wouldn't put money on Zack Godley matching what he did last outing when he went seven innings while giving up four hits and one run. In his short career, he's allowing a .339 wOBA to lefties and 4.31 xFIP with a weak 18.9 percent K rate.

Michael Conforto, NYM at ARI ($18): In that same game, Conforto is feeling pretty good about himself after a huge Sunday in which he hit a homer with three RBIs. His numbers against righties can't be touched by many right now with a .433 wOBA and .302 ISO, but also somewhat low 18.8 percent K rate for a big hitter. Godley has been fine in his two starts, but it can't be considered a trend with only 12 innings under his belt this season.

Ezequiel Carrera, TOR vs. ATL ($12): We might as well pile on Colon given how bad he's looked. It helps that Carrera has been solid in the past week with 10 hits in his last six games. He's only usable against righties with a .366 wOBA and that number jumps to .411 in home games.
