DraftKings MLB: Saturday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Masahiro Tanaka, NYY at TB ($9,700): There are plenty of reasons not to go with Tanaka given his last outing, but things should be better Saturday. First, his upside outweighs anyone else at this price. Second, the Rays have the highest K rate against righties (27.8 percent) and their wOBA drops to a mediocre .318 in home games.

Robbie Ray, ARI at SD ($8,900): I usually don't go with two pitchers on the road, but Ray makes a ton of sense given that the Padres have a league-worst .259 wOBA against lefties this season to go with a putrid .078 ISO. Ray hasn't looked great in his last couple outings, but he's been a high strikeout guy all season (30.0 percent K rate) and that should be enough in this matchup.

CATCHER

Alex Avila, DET vs. TEX ($3,500): I'm fine with riding Avila until his price jumps up and all signs point to him starting again since Miguel Cabrera is dealing with an oblique injury. After a subpar Friday, he still has one of the better wOBAs in the league against righties at .489 along with a .310 ISO. A.J. Griffin has allowed a .329 wOBA against lefties this season and a brutal 6.00 xFIP.

FIRST BASE

Chris Davis, BAL vs. TOR ($5,100): This is a fairly easy pick given how Davis has been hitting. He struck out four times Friday, but was cruising with five homers in his previous six games. Going against Michael Bolsinger, he should get back on track as Davis has a better wOBA (.376) and ISO (.295) against righties.

SECOND BASE

Jonathan Schoop, BAL vs. TOR ($3,800): On the other side of the plate, it gets even better for Schoop. In addition to his .377 wOBA and lower 14.6 percent K rate against righties, Bolsinger hasn't shown much against them in his early starts and was just shelled for five runs in his last outing, only making it through 4.2 innings.

THIRD BASE

Jose Ramirez, CLE at HOU ($3,800): This play should be pretty reliable since Mike Fiers has given up at least two homers in each of his last five starts. Ramirez isn't striking out much against righties (13.5percent) and has a stout .395 wOBA to show he's worth a look on the cheaper end.

SHORTSTOP

Jean Segura, SEA vs. CWS ($5,100): This is a bit pricey for a shortstop, but I'm comfortable with it, even after Segura ended his 17-game hit streak Friday. Segura has a .392 wOBA against righties and that gets pushed to .424 at home. As for Mike Pelfrey, he isn't striking anyone out and has a 5.58 xFIP against fellow righties.

OUTFIELD

Ben Gamel, SEA vs. CWS ($3,800): There's no reason to trust Pelfrey, which is why a few Mariners are worth considering Saturday. Pelfrey has given up at least three runs in each of his last four starts and hasn't made it past 5.1 innings in any of them. As a bonus, Gamel's .410 wOBA against righties should come in handy.

Charlie Blackmon, COL at CIN ($5,500): It makes sense to pick at least one player against Tim Adleman, considering the righty only made it one inning last start after dealing with a neck issue. Either way, Adleman's numbers aren't great with just a 17.7 percent K rate and 5.87 xFIP against lefties. Blackmon's numbers aren't as good on the road, but he still sports a .423 wOBA against righties and has at least two hits in three of his last four road games.

Jose Bautista, TOR at BAL ($4,900): If you have the money, Bautista is a nice pick at a slightly cheaper salary than most high-end outfielders. Bautista has been crushing and has a .340 wOBA even after a slow start to the season. On the mound, things haven't been great for Kevin Gausman, as he's allowing a .433 wOBA against righties.
