DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Michael Pineda, NYY vs. KC ($10,500): Pineda should be able to impose his will against the Royals, who hold the third lowest wOBA in the league against right-handed pitching. Kansas City is a favorable matchup for Pineda in almost every way, as they are a bottom-3 team in the league against the slider according to RAA, and have logged just a .145 ISO.

Jake Odorizzi, TB vs. LAA ($8,300): Odorizzi's name doesn't jump off the page when looking for pitching options, but he does hold a 3.16 ERA over seven starts this season. While it is true that the 27-year-old has been playing a bit over his head, he should be able to have a strong night against the Angels, who have registered a -6.1 RAA against the changeup.

Catcher

Buster Posey, SF at CHC ($4,200):John Lackey has regressed significantly in 2017, as his fastball clocks in at -4.2 RAA, and he is allowing a .490 slugging percentage to right-handers. Posey has done well against the heater (5.1 RAA) and has logged a .404 wOBA against same-handed pitchers.

First Base

Tommy Joseph, PHI vs. COL ($3,800): Opposing starter Jeff Hoffman has been hit hard in his cup of coffee with the Rockies this season, having allowed four runs over just 6.2 innings. It is a bit difficult to know what to expect from Hoffman on a regular basis, but he has kept a negative run value with his fastball in 38 career innings. Joseph has done more damage against lefties but still holds a 37 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching.

Second Base

Jose Ramirez, CLE at CIN ($4,100): Ramirez is having a strong season against righties, as evidenced by his .234 ISO over 94 at-bats. Scott Feldman compensates for his below-average fastball with a strong curveball, but that shouldn't be a source of trouble for Ramirez, who has logged a 1.6 RAA against the offering.

Third Base

Eugenio Suarez, CIN vs. CLE ($4,600):Josh Tomlin has kept a reverse split for the past few seasons, but the edge seems slightly bigger for righty bats in 2017, as he has allowed a .590 slugging percentage over 19.0 innings. Suarez has tallied a .242 ISO against right-handed hurlers, while holding a hard contact rate of 35 percent.

Shortstop

Javier Baez, CHC vs. SF ($4,000): It seems likely that any future Ty Blach has in major league baseball won't be in a starting rotation, as he has logged just a 7.6 percent strikeout rate this season, contributing to a 5.27 xFIP. Baez can be incredibly dangerous when he can't be set down with strikes. He will come into the matchup having notched a .200 ISO and a 33 percent hard contact rate against southpaws over 35 at-bats.

Outfield

Max Kepler, MIN at BAL ($4,000):Ubaldo Jimenez needs to be considered a stack target for as long as he remains in a major league rotation, as he has logged a .710 slugging percentage against lefties over 15.2 innings. Kepler has registered a 43 percent fly ball rate, which should play well against Jimenez's ground-ball tendencies.

Seth Smith, BAL vs. MIN ($3,600):Kyle Gibson threw the ball well in two starts after being demoted to Triple-A Rochester, but it is important to remember that he has logged a 5.55 ERA over his last 173.2 innings at the big league level dating back to last season. Smith doesn't get talked about as much as some of the bigger power hitters in Baltimore's lineup, but he has tallied a .362 wOBA and a 32 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitchers.

Corey Dickerson, TB vs. LAA ($4,700): Dickerson has been a beast at the plate this season, slugging .635 with a 38 percent hard contact rate. J.C. Ramirez has allowed a 1.7 HR/9 rate against lefties, while notching just a 16 percent strikeout rate over 21.1 innings.
