FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

J.A. Happ, TOR at KC ($8,300) – Happ was a little slow out of the gate, but he's looked really good in his past two starts, racking up 17 strikeouts and allowing three runs in 12.2 innings. Kansas City has improved against lefties after a brutal opening month, but they remain a bottom-10 team in wOBA against lefties this season.

Catcher

Russell Martin, TOR at KC ($2,600)Jake Junis takes the hill for the Royals, which makes the Blue Jays one of many good stacking options on this slate. Junis enters with a 5.56 ERA and has only one quality start in four tries this season. Martin is not the biggest name in the Blue Jays' lineup, but as the team has heated up over the past month, so has he. Martin is also hitting righties better this season than lefties, which means he has some good value at this price.

First Base

Edwin Encarnacion, CLE vs MN ($3,900) – With Adalberto Mejia taking the mound for the Twins, another Cleveland stack is in order. Encarnacion is batting cleanup in the middle of a deadly order and he'll have plenty of opportunities to drive in runs against Mejia. Encarnacion enters with a .397 wOBA against lefties this season.

Second Base

Daniel Murphy, WAS vs CIN ($4,100) – With most of the attention on the Nats' bullpen and a certain other lefty in their lineup, Murphy has flown a bit under the radar this season, but he's putting up great numbers. He's been especially hot lately with double-digit points in seven of his past nine games. He gets what looks like a good matchup as he faces rookie right-hander Luis Castillo. Murphy has feasted on right-hander pitching this season to the tune of a .401 wOBA.

Shortstop

Jordy Mercer, PIT at STL ($2,800)Adam Wainwright takes the mound for the Cardinals and he's been about the most difficult pitcher to project this season. Wainwright had a string of four starts at the end of May into the beginning of June where he looked outstanding and then he surrendered nine runs to the Reds. He followed that with a decent start before giving up another nine-spot in his last outing. If he's going to blow up again, you'll obviously want a piece of the Pittsburgh lineup and Mercer offers a low-cost option with nice upside. Mercer has hit righties pretty well this season and enters with a .366 wOBA.

Third Base

Jake Lamb, AZ vs PHI ($3,900)Mark Leiter Jr. will make his first major league start against the Diamondbacks and — with the exception of Coors Field against the Rockies — he couldn't have been put in a tougher spot. Lamb was just about the only Diamondback hitter that didn't have much success on Thursday in Colorado, so you know what that means — he's due for a big game. If you don't believe in players being "due", then just settle for his .432 wOBA against righties this season.

Outfield

J.D. Martinez, DET at SD ($4,000)Dinelson Lamet takes the hill for the Padres coming off an impressive 12-strikeout outing, but he's struggled as a whole over his past three starts. In those three starts, he's allowed 17 runs in just 14 innings. J.D. Martinez came out of the gate on fire, and while he wasn't able to keep up that insane level, he's still hitting at an all-star rate. Martinez is averaging 13.4 points per game this season, hitting righties well with a .353 wOBA.

Austin Jackson, CLE vs MN ($2,800) – While Encarnacion is a great high-end option, Jackson is a great low-end option. Jackson is a right-handed specialist, who only starts against lefties, and with Adalberto Mejia on the mound, Jackson should again be in the lineup. Jackson has the second highest wOBA against righties on the Indians at .405.

Steven Souza Jr., TB vs CIN ($3,900) – The Orioles' rotation is so bad that they've pulled Ubaldo Jimenez out of the bullpen to start again, making the Rays a fantastic team to stack Friday. Souza Jr. has the best numbers on the team against righties this season, and he comes at a reasonable price.
