DraftKings MLB: Saturday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Corey Kluber, CLE at OAK ($12,200): As the third most expensive pitcher Saturday, Kluber is an easy choice. He has at least eight strikeouts in each of his last eight starts, with his worst outing in that stretch at 21.7 fantasy points. Against the A's, who have the second-highest K rate against righties (26.6 percent) since June, Kluber could be headed for double-digit strikeouts again. Back on June 1, he struck out 10 Oakland batters and gave up only two hits in six innings of work.

Jimmy Nelson, MIL vs. PHI ($9,700): It took some time to get settled in, but Nelson has shown more consistency in his last five starts. He has 43 strikeouts over that stretch and surpassed 32 fantasy points in three of those outings. He should be in for another good performance given that the Phillies have struggled against righties all season. Since the beginning of June, they've been worst in the league with a .295 wOBA and 25.7 percent K rate.

CATCHER

James McCann, DET vs. TOR ($2,800): With Francisco Liriano on the mound, McCann should start behind the plate over Alex Avila. While Avila can only hit righties, McCann can only hit lefties with a .423 wOBA and .429 ISO in 49 at-bats. Conveniently, all of Liriano's struggles come against righties with a .374 wOBA allowed and 5.44 xFIP. Liriano has also given up 15 runs in his last four starts.

FIRST BASE

Yulieski Gurriel, HOU vs. MIN ($3,600): Prior to the All-Star break, Gurriel had six multi-hit games in nine starts. At this price, he can't be passed up as the righty-righty matchup favors him. Gurriel has an impressive .366 wOBA and .209 ISO against righties, while Ervin Santana has struggled more against righties with a 4.95 xFIP and higher 10.9 percent BB rate.

SECOND BASE

Javier Baez, CHC at BAL ($3,600): Baez should be in the starting lineup with a righty on the mound, and the Cubs have a chance to pound Wade Miley. The lefty had one of his better outings of the season last start, but still only made it 5.2 innings. In the six starts before that, he allowed 29 runs. Most of Baez's success has come against lefties in 66 at-bats with a .334 wOBA and .273 ISO.

THIRD BASE

Kris Bryant, CHC at BAL ($5,100): If you have the money, this is a great spot to jump on Miley with a couple righties. Miley is much worse against them with a .373 wOBA allowed and 4.63 xFIP. Bryant is crushing lefties this season with a .449 wOBA and .338 ISO.

SHORTSTOP

Wilmer Difo, WAS at CIN ($3,600): With Trea Turner out, this is a good enough spot to use Difo in. His lower 18.3 percent K rate against righties could work nicely against Luis Castillo, who has 25 Ks in his last three starts. Castillo also only made it five innings the last time he faced the Nationals, striking out five.

OUTFIELD

Nelson Cruz, SEA at CWS ($4,800): I needed to get at least one Mariner in my lineup because it's always a good idea to go against Derek Holland. The lefty hurler has given up at least five runs in three of his last four starts and sports an unhealthy 5.32 xFIP against righties. Holland actually had a good outing when these teams met in late May, but Cruz still went long against him for Seattle's only run. Cruz has a .371 wOBA and .238 ISO against righties.

Daniel Descalso, ARI at ATL ($3,900): According to the numbers, Descalso is a steal at this price no matter how well Mike Foltynewicz is pitching. Descalso is much better against righties with a .360 WOBA and .211 ISO, while Foltynewicz is much worse against lefties with a .371 wOBA allowed and 5.39 xFIP.

Matt Kemp, ATL vs. ARI ($3,200): For my outfield value play, Kemp wins the job against Patrick Corbin, who is still a level away from being consistent. The hurler's .370 wOBA allowed and 4.26 xFIP against righties stands out, but also his much lower 18.5 percent K rate. As for Kemp, he strikes out less against lefties with a 15.1 percent rate and solid .334 wOBA.
