DraftKings MLB: Saturday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Gio Gonzalez, WAS vs. NYM ($12,500): It's surprising Gonzalez doesn't cost more, but I'll take it. He's gone at least six innings in his last five starts and reached at least 22.5 fantasy points in all of them. He should be headed for more of the same as the Mets have been terrible against lefties in August with a .242 wOBA and 29.6 percent K rate.

Sean Newcomb, ATL vs. COL ($7,100): I needed to save a few bucks and this is how I'll do it. Newcomb has reached at least 11.9 fantasy points in his last six starts and that's good enough for the price. His upside is limited, but the Rockies struggle on the road and have a 28.8 percent K rate against lefties since the All-Star break.

CATCHER

Wilson Ramos, TB at STL ($3,300): Mike Leake is set to start Saturday, which means it's a perfect time to grab semi-cheap bats against him. Leake has gone off the rails in recent starts, allowing at least five runs in each of his last five and14 over his last two. Ramos comes in on a bit of a run with at least two hits in five of the last six games, which goes with his .348 wOBA against righties in August.

FIRST BASE

Jose Abreu, CWS vs. DET ($4,600): I had Nick Delmonico in here, but after he needed an MRI on Friday, Abreu it is. Similar to going against Leake, I'm taking that route against Buck Farmer, who's getting called up from Triple-A to start this game. Farmer last pitched in the majors in June when he gave up 13 runs (five homers) in two starts and only 4.2 IP. Abreu loves facing the Tigers and has a .332 wOBA and .254 ISO in his last 74 plate appearances against righties.

SECOND BASE

Tyler Saladino, CWS vs. DET ($2,500): With Yoan Moncada on the DL, Saladino moves into the lineup. His numbers aren't great, but his price will do against Farmer. The righty hurler has given up 11 runs and four homers in 9.1 IP against righties.

THIRD BASE

Todd Frazier, NYY vs. SEA ($4,000): Frazier has had a few big games with the Yankees and the hope is he can have another one here. Still, his .375 wOBA in his last 63 plate appearances against righties is good enough to back. On the mound, Yovani Gallardo struggles a ton against righties with a .372 wOBA allowed and 5.12 xFIP. He gave up three runs in five innings against the Yanks just over a month ago.

SHORTSTOP

Didi Gregorius, NYY vs. SEA ($4,400): I'll continue attacking Gallardo with Gregorius, who has been great against righties in the past month with a .374 wOBA and .222 ISO. The last time Gregorius saw Gallardo, he homered twice in two at-bats. Gallardo has given up at least three runs in his last four starts and was shelled by the Orioles two outings ago for eight runs.

OUTFIELD

Eddie Rosario, MIN at TOR ($4,400): Rosario has cooled off some in recent games, but I still like him in a good spot. He has a .453 wOBA and .422 ISO in his last 71 at-bats against righties, so that helps too. Marco Estrada hasn't figured things out after a couple good outings, recently giving up nine runs in his last two starts. He's worse against righties with a .367 wOBA and 5.55 xFIP.

Cory Spangenberg, SD at MIA ($3,600): Spangenberg sports a nice .425 wOBA and .345 ISO in his last 64 plate appearances against righties with his only downfall a high K rate. With Odrisamer Despaigne on the mound in his second start of the season, that may not matter. In 11.0 IP against lefties, he has a .368 wOBA allowed and small 10.0 percent K rate.

Jon Jay, CHC at PHI ($3,200): Jay is another super cheap bat I wanted to throw in against a questionable pitcher. Ben Lively has moved between MLB and Triple-A throughout the season and has won only two of his eight starts. His .353 wOBA allowed and 5.93 xFIP against lefties is also a good selling point. Jay has limited upside, but a .334 wOBA against righties is still good enough to use against a subpar arm.
