Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

It's not a full slate Monday night, but it's big enough to have a nice variety of pitchers in addition to two games having an over/under of at least 10 runs. While there could be some lower-priced gems, I'm more confident in rolling with two aces against less than average lineups.

PITCHER

Carlos Carrasco, CLE at BAL ($54): The Orioles have had only a few good games this season and this probably won't be one of them. Carrasco has coasted in his last three outings with just 11 hits and three runs allowed over 22 innings. Some of that is due to matchup, but it's hard to ignore Baltimore's wretched 26.7 K% and .269 wOBA against righties.

Gio Gonzalez, WAS at SF ($45): My favorite thing about Gonzalez is that he rarely gets shelled and that's always nice to have in DFS. He has reached 17 fantasy points in all four starts and while he isn't going deep into games, he's had at least five strikeouts in every outing. The Giants have faced the most southpaws of any team (390 plate appearances) and they haven't been good with a 25.6 K% and .283 wOBA. If you want to save money, Chris Stratton ($37), Chad Bettis ($35) and Trevor Cahill ($33) are all worth looks, but none can be considered reliable.

CATCHER

Evan Gattis, HOU vs. LAA ($8): Gattis' price has dropped big this season, but he's now a cheap catcher that can provide power. His .207 ISO against southpaws last season stands out in a matchup against a pitcher that hasn't made it more than five innings in his last three starts. Tyler Skaggs gave up six runs to the Red Sox last time out and had a poor .345 wOBA allowed against righties in 2017.

FIRST BASE

Marwin Gonzalez, HOU vs. LAA ($9): Speaking of cheap Houston bats against a guy that just got shelled, Gonzalez is in the same mold as Gattis. Since Gonzalez's price dipped under 10 bucks, he starting hitting again with six hits and two doubles in the last five games. His 2017 numbers against lefties are a bit worse than against righties, but he was still consistent (.340 wOBA) to go with a .217 ISO. Skaggs gave up 11 of his 13 homers to righties last season as seen in his 4.51 xFIP.

SECOND BASE

Jason Kipnis, CLE at BAL ($9): Kipnis doesn't have much power these days, but he's logged a hit in eight straight and that's good enough at this price after last season's .316 wOBA against righty arms. He should add another hit against the struggling Kevin Gausman, who allowed nine hits to a weaker Tigers lineup last start. Gausman was also blasted by lefties last season with a .350 wOBA allowed.

THIRD BASE

Jose Ramirez, CLE at BAL ($17): Ramirez is definitely a guy worth spending money on with three home runs in the last two games and six in his last nine. He's repeating the same power that got him to a .272 ISO and .397 wOBA against righties a season ago. Gausman gives up plenty of homers to both sides of the plate, but most important is his 4.92 xFIP against lefty bats last season.

SHORTSTOP

Marcus Semien, OAK at TEX ($15): After a down 2017, Semien's early numbers have reverted to the norm and he's hitting closer to his career .343 wOBA and .194 ISO against southpaws. That should continue against Matt Moore, who was bad (19 H, 11 ER) in his first three starts before taking down the Rays last outing. There's plenty to worry about from Moore with last seasons 5.06 xFIP against righties standing out the most.

OUTFIELD

Ben Gamel, SEA at CWS ($15): This play is mostly a gamble on one of Seattle's cheaper bats. Gamel returned from the DL less than a week ago and while his numbers aren't amazing after a .321 wOBA against righties last season, everyone has had success against Miguel Gonzalez. The righty hurler has given up 24 hits and 17 runs in his first three starts and is coming off a season with a miserable 5.74 xFIP against lefties.

Brett Gardner, NYY vs. MIN ($14): The Yankees should have plenty of fun against Jake Odorizzi, who gave up three homers in his last start and has 11 walks in 21.1 IP. Gardner is only useful in DFS against righties as seen in 2017's .359 wOBA and .191 ISO. As for Odorizzi, his 5.21 xFIP against lefties last season won't work well in this matchup.

David Dahl, COL vs. SD ($13): Any time you can get a cheap bat against a subpar pitcher at Coors Field, you have to do it. Dahl should start again after his debut on Sunday due to Carlos Gonzalez and Gerardo Parra both being out. Bryan Mitchell hasn't figured things out with 17 walks and only seven Ks in his first 19.2 innings. He isn't good against either side of the plate, but his career .352 wOBA allowed against lefty bats is a concern.
