Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Tuesday's MLB slate begins at 7:05 PM Eastern time and features all 30 teams. A pair of rookie pitchers stand out as strong values in this slate, and they're joined by batters from all over the price spectrum, including two from Oakland.

PITCHER

Mike Soroka, ATL at TOR ($35): Soroka was terrific against the Mets in his last start after coming off the disabled list, carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning. His 2.61 FIP through four starts at the highest level suggests Soroka's 2.57 ERA is no fluke, and the 20-year-old Canadian should be extra motivated with friends and family on hand to watch him work in his home country. Soroka's strikeout rate currently sits at 21.4 percent and he's posted a 29.8 percent mark at the Triple-A level this season, so look for him to rack up the whiffs against a Toronto lineup that strikes out more than league average at 8.73 per game.

Dereck Rodriguez, SF vs. MIA ($27): Rodriguez has shown some promise through 18.1 major-league innings with a 3.89 FIP and 18.4 percent strikeout rate. At just $27, the rookie right-hander's worth a look against the league's least potent offense. Miami ranks last at 3.51 runs per game and strikes out a bit more than league average as well (8.67 per game).

CATCHER

Tyler Flowers, ATL at TOR ($12): Both of Atlanta's catchers are strong against left-handed pitching, but Kurt Suzuki is likely to miss this contest due to a head injury. Flowers should have no trouble picking up the slack offensively, as his wOBA through 32 at-bats against lefties is .571. He faces a vulnerable one here in Toronto's Jaime Garcia, who's allowing a .372 wOBA to right-handed batters this season.

FIRST BASE

Edwin Encarnacion, CLE vs. CWS ($18): Encarnacion has struggled against left-handed pitching this season, but the veteran slugger was just .006 below his career .373 wOBA in that split last year, so he should start turning things around eventually. This home matchup with Chicago's Carlos Rodon is as as good a time as any for that turnaround to start, as Progressive Field has a league-high 1.38 park factor and Rodon has a .343 career wOBA allowed to right-handed hitters.

SECOND BASE

Daniel Murphy, WAS vs. BAL ($17): Make sure Murphy's in the Nationals lineup before putting him in yours, as his surgically-repaired knee hasn't been tested in the field yet. Should Murphy play, this is a great buy-low opportunity on a premier left-handed slugger that just rejoined the lineup as the designated hitter a week ago. Murphy produced a .396 wOBA against right-handed pitching last season while Orioles starter David Hess is allowing a .401 mark to left-handed batters in 2018.

THIRD BASE
Nolan Arenado, COL vs. NYM ($24):
Arenado's worth paying up for here, as he's among the league's best hitters when it comes to punishing left-handed pitching and should benefit from Coors Field's second-ranked, 1.35 park factor. The star slugger's wOBA against southpaws is an outstanding.505, and last year's .534 mark suggests that success is sustainable. Meanwhile, New York's Jason Vargas has allowed a .378 wOBA to batters from the right side in 2018 and sports a 9.15 road ERA.

SHORTSTOP

Marcus Semien, OAK at SD ($16): Semien's career wOBA against left-handed pitching is a passable .335, and he squeezes the most value out of that number by batting at the top of Oakland's order. He may not face a more vulnerable lefty all season than San Diego's Eric Lauer, who has allowed a .404 wOBA to the 176 right-handed batters he's faced this season.

OUTFIELD

Brandon Nimmo, NYM at COL ($23): Rockies starter German Marquez has an 8.44 ERA in three June starts and a 7.71 ERA in 32.2 home innings this season. With the hitter-friendly conditions of Coors Field backing him, Nimmo's primed to improve on his tremendous .456 wOBA against righties in this favorable matchup.

Leonys Martin, DET at CIN ($17): Martin's producing a solid .365 wOBA against right-handed pitching while leading off for Detroit. He'll have a great opportunity to further raise that number against Reds righty Sal Romano, who has surrendered a .371 wOBA to batters from the left side this season.

Chad Pinder, OAK at SD ($17): Pinder's another Oakland batter primed for a strong performance against the vulnerable Lauer. The right-handed outfielder's produced a .385 wOBA in 65 at-bats against southpaws this season, so he's already no stranger to success in that split.
