Following a prolific rookie season in 2018-19. Young picked up where he left off -- and then some. In an opening-night win over Detroit on Oct. 24, Young poured in 38 points, including six three-pointers, to go with seven rebounds, nine assists and one steal. He followed up with 39 points in a win over Orlando two nights later, hitting five threes and making 16-of-25 field goal attempts. Young was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the first week of the season. In November, Young logged eight games with at least 30 points, headlined by a 49-point effort in a narrow loss to the Pacers on Nov. 29. During an eight-game span from Nov. 23 to Dec. 8, Young averaged 34.4 points per game to go with 8.1 assists and 4.3 rebounds. He erupted for 47 points against the Nets on Dec. 21 and 48 points in a win over the Knicks on Feb. 9 -- two of his nine 40-point games before the All-Star break. Young was voted an Eastern Conference All-Star -- and a starter -- for the first time in his career. After the break, Young appeared in 10 games prior to the suspension of the NBA season on Mar. 11. In that span, Young averaged 29.5 points, 10.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game. In his first post-break game, the Oklahoma product went for 50 points and eight assists in a win over Miami. Three games later, he posted 37 points and 11 assists against Orlando (Feb. 26). In his final two games, Young erupted for 31 points and 16 assists against the Hornets (Mar. 9), and 42 points and 11 assists against the Knicks (Mar. 11).

All eyes were on Young heading into his rookie season. Not only was he the fifth overall pick, but he was traded for Luka Doncic, who was thought by some to be an all-time draft prospect. The Hawks inserted Young right into their starting lineup, as he was their starting point guard in all 81 games he played. They also gave the former Oklahoma star lots of opportunity to spread his wings. Young averaged 30.9 minutes and took 15.5 field goals per contest, averaging 19.1 points in the process. On the year, Young made 32.4 percent of his three-point shots, but he really turned things on in the second half. Over his final 40 games, Young made 35 percent of his 7.0 three-point attempts per contest, which helped him average 22.7 points per game during that span. That included an eye-popping Mar. 1 explosion in which he dropped 49 points on the Bulls. In addition to his shooting skills, Young averaged 8.1 assists per contest. His season high of 17 dimes came Nov. 19 alongside 25 points -- just one of his 30 double-doubles. Young also turned in his first career triple-double Mar. 9, tallying 23 points to go with a season-high-tying 10 rebounds and 11 assists. He was named Rookie of the Month four times and made the All-Rookie First Team.
