Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Hutchison was born in Mission Viejo, California in 1996 to Charles and Tanya Hutchison. The small forward starred during his last two years at Mission Viejo High School. In his junior season, Hutchison averaged 13.8 points and went all the way to the state regional quarterfinals. As a senior, he increased his output to 19.5 points per game and was named to the All-South Coast League first team. Heading into the 2014-15 college campaign, Hutchison was ranked as the No. 7 prospect in California and No. 19 small forward in the country. He received offers from several schools and eventually signed with Boise State. You can follow him on Twitter and Instagram (@cmohutchison). There isn't exactly a pipeline from Boise State to the NBA. Hutchison became just the sixth player to make his way from the Broncos to the league (with Gus Johnson and Chris Childs being the most established players in the pros). The 6-foot-7 forward was an understudy to James Webb III for his first two seasons. He averaged 6.8 points and 4.1 rebounds as sophomore, but he played just 19.8 minutes per contest. After Webb moved on (playing one season in the NBA), Hutchison took a starring role. As a junior in 2016-17, he led Boise State with 17.4 points and 7.8 rebounds. He had a streak of four straight double-doubles and compiled nine on the season. In the first round of the NIT, Hutchison scored a career-high 34 points in a win over Utah. The forward applied for the 2017 NBA Draft, but he decided to return to Boise. He had a stellar senior season and led the Mountain West with 20.0 points. In a win over San Diego State, the forward pumped in a career-high 44 points, including seven three-pointers. He also had a triple-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a win over Portland. While the Broncos failed to get an invite to the Big Dance, Hutchison put up 39 points in a first-round NIT loss against Washington.

ANALYSIS
Selected by the Bulls with the 22nd overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Hutchison spent parts of four seasons in the NBA with Chicago, Washington and Phoenix while averaging 5.4 points and 3.7 rebounds in 17.4 minutes per game over 103 career regular-season appearances. He had thus far spent the 2022-23 season in the G League with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, averaging 16.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 33.8 minutes in five outings.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Injuries call future into question
FChicago Bulls
March 11, 2020
Hutchison, who the Bulls announced Wednesday will miss the remainder of the season due to shoulder surgery, will be unable to play in the summer league this year and may not have his fourth-year option picked up, Keith Smith of ProBasketballTalk.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hutchison is set for arthroscopic surgery on his troublesome right shoulder Tuesday, a procedure that carries a projected recovery timeline of 12-to-16 weeks. That eliminates any chance of summer league action for the second-year wing, who would have been a likely candidate, considering he'll have only played in 72 of a possible 164 career games by the time the current campaign ends. Smith also speculates the checkered injury history that has led to Hutchison's sparse participation over his first two seasons could also prompt the Bulls to decline their fourth-year team option on the 23-year-old's rookie contract.

After getting traded in the offseason to San Antonio in part of the Spencer Dinwiddie-to-Washington trade, the Spurs waived Hutchison, who cleared waivers and signed with the Suns. The 25-year-old forward will bring depth to a crowded Suns frontcourt that includes Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, Jae Crowder and Abdel Nader. This signing won't add much fantasy value to Hutchison, as he likely won't see many minutes.
Hutchison returned for his second year with the Bulls, though it was a disappointing campaign for the Boise State product. He appeared in only 28 contests while dealing with a shoulder injury, but he's reportedly healthy to begin the 2020-21 campaign. In 2019-20, Hutchison averaged career highs in points (7.8), steals (1.0) and assists (0.9) while seeing his minutes drop from 20.3 as a rookie to 18.8 in his second season. Hutchison performed well in 10 starts, where he averaged 9.1 points, 4.7 boards and 1.4 assists, and he's proven to be an efficient player even with limited opportunities. Hutchison will compete with Garrett Temple for playing time behind Otto Porter, though given Porter's trouble staying healthy last season, there's a chance Hutchison could log meaningful playing time this season. For now, he's not a player to draft outside deeper fantasy leagues.
Hutchison recorded averages of 5.2 points (45.9 FG%, 28.0 3P%, 60.5 FT%), 4.2 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.5 steals, 0.3 threes and 0.1 blocks in 20.3 minutes across 44 appearances in 2018-19. The 23-year-old wing is still rather raw overall, and his struggles from beyond the arc and as a playmaker (0.8 dimes versus 0.6 turnovers) may prevent him from taking on a more demanding role as a sophomore. Moreover, the presence of Otto Porter, who was acquired at last season's trade deadline but only appeared in 15 games with the Bulls, may very well result in Hutchison seeing fewer minutes in 2019-20. Given that Chicago is likely to be more competitive and potentially fighting for a playoff spot this year, Hutchison will have to earn every minute, whereas when the losses were piling up last season there was plenty of time devoted to his development. As such, Hutchison's fantasy value may be limited to the very deepest formats.
Hutchison posted 20.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game as a senior at Boise State last season, carrying the bulk of the team's offense. Though he’s not a top-flight athlete, he's explosive enough to make hard drives to the basket and find success pushing the ball in transition. If he can continue developing his three-point shot, ball-handling and defensive versatility, he may turn into a quality role player in the league. To begin the season, Hutchison will be competing with Denzel Valentine and Justin Holiday for reserve minutes on the wing, as Zach LaVine and Jabari Parker are essentially locks to start at shooting guard and small forward.
