Childs announced on his personal Twitter account that he's elected to pull out of the 2018 NBA Draft and will return to BYU for his junior season.

Childs put together a breakout campaign for BYU as a sophomore, posting averages of 17.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.8 blocks across 34.0 minutes. That put him at second on the team in scoring behind Elijah Bryant, while also sitting first in rebounds and blocks. For that reason, his return to BYU is huge for the program, as Childs has the capability to thrive on both ends of the floor and is one of the Cougars' top overall players. Look for him to see as many minutes as possible once again heading into his junior season, making him an intriguing fantasy option.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Childs has officially entered his name into the NBA draft pool but will not sign an agent, Jay Drew of the Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Childs had already hinted that he would give the NBA draft process a go this offseason, so his declaration shouldn't surprise many. Doing so without an agent will allow the sophomore big man to return to school for 2018-19 without any issues, which seems the most likely scenario. Childs posted a monster season for the Cougars in 2017-18, averaging 17.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.8 blocks per contest as a sophomore. Assuming he rejoins the team next season as expected, Childs should be in store for another impressive campaign.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Childs is expected to submit his name to the NBA Draft pool after the conclusion of the 2017-2018 season, Mitch Harper of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Childs is curious about his current NBA Draft stock, and wants to see where he ranks in comparison to other prospects. If he's not satisfied with his answer, the sophomore forward will more than likely return to BYU for the 2018-2019 season. Childs will prepare for the Cougars' next matchup with Stanford on Wednesday and finishing off the season before switching his focus to the NBA.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Childs had an excellent line - 13 points (5-11 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 10 rebounds, six assists, and five blocks - in the win over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday.

Fantasy owner were sad when Eric Mika decided to leave BYU, but they can take solace in the 6-8 sophomore who may have a better all-around game. Childs should lead the Cougars in rebounding and will have a center place in the offense.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Childs racked up 17 points and 19 rebounds in a charity exhibition victory over New Mexico on Friday, The Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Childs averaged 9.3 points and 8.2 boards as a freshman for the Courgars, and early indications suggest he's ready to take a big leap forward. The 6-8 forward and Utah native should be on the radar in any format using players from the West Coast Conference, as Childs is a sleeper to earn first-team WCC honors. With veteran guards T.J. Haws and Nick Emery setting the table for Childs in a fast-paced offensive scheme, his production has an incredibly high ceiling.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Childs (ankle) had eight points (4-9 FG) to go with five rebounds in Monday's loss to St. Mary's.

An ankle injury slowed Childs towards the end of the regular season, but he managed start the final two games and play in the last three overall. In all, Childs finished his freshman season having averaged a 10.2 points and 8.8 rebounds since moving into the regular starting rotation in late November. He figures to be a major piece for the Cougars in the postseason and moving into next year.

February 21, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Childs has missed the last two practices due to an ankle injury, Jay Drew of the Salt Lake Tribune reports.

This is a potentially significant development for the Cougars as Childs has come on particularly strong in February, averaging 13.3 points and 9.5 rebounds as the starting power forward. Unfortunately, his ankle injury has kept him out during the early portion of the week. BYU does not play until Thursday, which gives Childs time to receive treatment on his ankle. If he's unable to play, Elijah Bryant may have to slide to power forward while Davin Guinn takes over at small forward.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Childs scored a career-high 23 points (10-16 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-8 FT) with 17 rebounds in the win over San Francisco on Saturday. He added three blocks.

The 6-8 freshman had his fifth double-double and second in his last three games. He is providing 9.3 points and 8.6 rebounds. Childs hits almost as many of his shots from the field (56.9 percent) as from the free-throw line (57.8 percent).
