Sims was shot and killed near Southern University's campus in Baton Rouge, Gary Parrish of CBS Sports reports. Coach Will Wade said, "We are all devastated. We need your prayers for Wayde, for his family, for all of us. We are heartbroken."

Sims was in the Tiger rotation as a sophomore and averaged 5.6 points and 2.9 rebounds in 17.4 minutes. He was 20 years old. As of yet, no arrests have been made.
