2019 Tournament PreviewExpectations were muted this season after the Pirates lost three productive seniors, but Seton Hall might be hitting its stride at the right time after nearly knocking off Villanova in the Big East tournament final. Coach Kevin Willard's plan started with junior guard Myles Powell (22.9 ppg), a solid scorer who blossomed into a star. Willard surrounded Powell with role players to do the dirty work. In the backcourt, 6-4 junior Quincy McKnight (9.5 ppg, 4.0 apg) runs the offense, while 6-6 sophomore Myles Cale (10.3 ppg) shoots a team-leading 38.1 percent from 3-point range. In the frontcourt, 6-8 senior Michael Nzei (9.2 ppg, 5.3 rpg) plays gritty defense and 6-10 sophomore Sandro Mamukelashvili (8.9 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.2 bpg) bangs the glass. The Pirates don't run much deeper than that, as the team ranks 310th in bench minutes, according to KenPom. The formula has worked to an extent -- the Pirates lost only two games by more than nine points and upset Kentucky on a neutral court but went 7-8 vs. Quadrant 1 teams.
