Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
2014
If you could guarantee a fully healthy season from McGuire (5-11, 198), he'd make a serious case to be ranked first overall. McGuire ran for 1,047 yards (5.0 YPC) and 13 TDs last year while catching 34 passes for 304 yards and three more scores, yet his season was a distinct disappointment. Injury and team-wide dysfunction conspired to "limit" McGuire to those numbers – he's capable of much more. McGuire demonstrated legendary efficiency in 2013 and 2014 with 2,127 yards and 22 TDs on just 269 carries (7.9 YPC) while catching 67 passes for 852 yards and five touchdowns.
If you're looking for the 2015 version of a Melvin Gordon-Tevin Coleman type -- a running back who can average 7.5 yards per carry as a workhorse -- McGuire is as good a bet as any. He's been one of the nation's most consistent big-play threats the last two years, posting 863 yards in 2013 at 8.4 yards per carry before totaling 1,264 yards in 2014 at 7.6 yards per carry. McGuire, 5-11, 198, is also an elite receiver, as he has 67 catches for 852 yards and five touchdowns the last two years. McGuire should see a noticeably bigger workload this season, too, as Alonzo Harris graduated after 371 carries the last two years.
McGuire was a beast of a freshman last year, instantly establishing himself as one of the nation's best big-play threats as an off-the-bench runner for Lafayette. He ran for 863 yards and eight touchdowns on just 103 carries (8.4 YPC) while catching 22 passes for 384 yards (17.5 YPC) and three touchdowns. Playing like that will earn you a bigger workload, and the Ragin' Cajuns are all but compelled to give McGuire more touches in 2014. Alonzo Harris remains the team's early down and short-yardage runner, but McGuire might be the top man between the 20s.
