Phillip Dorsett

31-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
Denver Broncos
2023 Fantasy Outlook
After appearing in just six total games with three different squads during the 2021 season, Dorsett carved out a role in Houston last year where he caught 20 passes for 257 yards and a touchdown on 40 targets in 15 contests. He'll now attempt to secure a spot on the Raiders' 53-man roster, but a combination of fellow receivers Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, Hunter Renfrow, DeAndre Carter and Keelan Cole figure to limit Dorsett's chances at significant playing time, though the unit could use depth specifically on the outside. Sticking with Denver
WRDenver Broncos
January 8, 2024
Dorsett signed a reserve/future contract with the Broncos on Monday, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Dorsett spent the entirety of the 2023 campaign with Denver's practice squad, joining the active roster twice during the year and failing to record a reception on three targets while playing 34 offensive snaps. The wide receiver will now look to earn a full-time role with Denver during training camp this coming summer.

Larger role on tap against Browns
WRHouston Texans
December 2, 2022
Dorsett is likely to take on a larger role in Week 13 against the Browns, as fellow wide receiver Brandin Cooks has been ruled out due to a calf injury.
ANALYSIS
Dorsett has stepped up when Cooks or Nico Collins have missed time previously. He had 45 yards and a touchdown in Week 7, then followed that effort up with a season-high 69 yards two weeks later. With the Texans expected to play from behind as usual, Dorsett could see a sizable number of targets while taking Cooks' usual spot on the outside.

Dorsett is one of five returning wideouts for Houston, but the ones that matter most are Brandin Cooks, Nico Collins and possibly Chris Conley. Throw in second-round draft pick John Metchie, and Dorsett's looking like a roster bubble candidate, along with Chris Moore, Davion Davis, DaeSean Hamilton, among others. Dorsett joined the Texans in December last season and was needed immediately, playing three games and logging 12 targets before a Week 15 foot injury ended the 2015 first-rounder's season.
The journeyman wideout never saw the field for the Seahawks in 2020 after suffering a foot injury in training camp, and he latched on with the Jaguars during the offseason. The 2015 first-round pick caught 33 passes for 528 yards during his sophomore season in 2016, but he's been unable to replicate those numbers over the past four years. Dorsett's elite speed makes him a big-play threat, but he's unlikely to be a consistent feature of the Jacksonville offense.
After registering 881 yards and eight touchdowns over three seasons in New England, Dorsett headed west on a one-year deal with the Seahawks. The 27-year-old hasn't lived up to his 2015 first-round selection, but he's still one of the fastest receivers in the league. In Seattle, he'll top out as the No. 3 receiver behind Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, and there's no guarantee he'll beat out David Moore. Continue to consider Dorsett a boom-or-bust asset worth nothing more than a late-round flier.
Slot maven Julian Edelman and the now-reinstated Josh Gordon will head the Patriots' wideout corps out of the gate, but with first-rounder K'Neal Harry on IR, both Dorsett and Demaryius Thomas, who is bouncing back from an Achilles' injury, have an opportunity top carve out complementary roles in the New England offense. Dorsett has produced for the team when given an opportunity, and he's now gone from fighting for a roster spot to being on the cusp on fantasy relevance.
Dorsett didn't make much of a splash in his first season with New England, notching just 12 catches for 194 yards in 15 games. He did, however, enter the league as a highly-touted first-round pick, so there's some untapped potential here. With Julian Edelman now facing a four-game suspension out of the gate, Dorsett has a chance to carve out a role opposite Chris Hogan early on. Dorsett has some competition, though. The group jostling for snaps and targets includes Eric Decker, Cordarrelle Patterson and Braxton Berrios. Dorsett's speed remains an asset, so it's not out of the question that he could blossom in 2018 as a downfield threat replacing Brandin Cooks.
It's hard to believe Dorsett was a first-round pick only two years ago, but even when Donte Moncrief missed time, Dorsett failed to take advantage, despite being the clear No. 2 and having Andrew Luck as his QB. Perhaps part of the problem is an overlap in skill set with the Colts' top receiver, T.Y. Hilton. Both are slightly built, speedy downfield threats. Dorsett is 5-10, 185, with blistering 4.33 40 speed, while Hilton is 5-9, 180 with 4.34, and you can't have two players running the same route. Moreover, Dorsett actually put up good per-play numbers -- 16 YPC, 8.9 YPT -- and had four catches of 40-plus yards, so it was more the lack of opportunity than failure to convert when he saw the ball. After losing out in a competition for the No. 3 job in Indianapolis, the speedy Dorsett was traded to New England in early September in exchange for quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Dorsett merely profiles as the No. 4 or 5 receiver for the Patriots, joining a group that includes Brandin Cooks, Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola and Malcolm Mitchell.
Dorsett's rookie season was derailed by injury. He missed five weeks with a broken ankle, and when he came back quarterback Andrew Luck was already out for the year. As such, we can throw out his 39-target sample and give him more or less a clean slate heading into 2016. At 5-10, 185, Dorsett is small, but he's one of the faster receivers in the league (4.33 40) and has exceptional quickness. With Andre Johnson gone, he should slot in as the team's No. 3 target, but he'll have competition on deep routes from T.Y. Hilton. Dorsett is never likely to be much of a red-zone threat, especially with the larger Donte Moncrief and TE Dwayne Allen around. Still, Dorsett's likely to have a significant role on the pass-happy Colts, and with Luck healthy again, he has upside should anything happen to Hilton or Moncrief.
Dorsett was a surprise first-round draft pick for the Colts in 2015 and will compete for playing time among a deep wide receiver corps. Dorsett is small -- he checks in at about 5-foot-10, 185 pounds – but has outstanding 4.33 speed and exceptional quickness. His value may be higher in keeper leagues as he'll begin the season as the fourth receiver, but could be a top target by next season.
