McDaniel (leg) was released by the Saints on Monday, Herbie Teope of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
McDaniel was set to become an unrestricted free agent in March anyway, so it seems that the team has simply informed him that it doesn't plan on bringing him back for another season. The 33-year-old will thus get a head start in finding a new home for the 2018 campaign, assuming he wants to continue playing.

McDaniel is a somewhat anonymous yet key part of the defensive line rotation. He was one of the league's better defensive tackles last season (53 tackles, two sacks), but this season will move to the outside to replace Red Bryant as the "5-technique" run-stuffing defensive end. At 6-7, 305, McDaniel has the length and strength to be a force at one of the most important positions in the Seattle defense.
McDaniel will be part of a rotation along the defensive line for the Dolphins.
McDaniel will most likely be part of a rotation at defensive end, but the drafting of Jared Odrick gives the Dolphins quite a few ends, and one could be on the outside looking in come the end of training camp.
McDaniel will add some bulk to the defensive line, but is far from a sure bet to make the team.
McDaniel will battle for a roster spot in training camp.
