2023 Fantasy Outlook
Following Dameon Pierce's season-ending ankle injury in Week 14 last season, the Texans were left with Ogunbowale, Royce Freeman and Red Burkhead in the backfield. Ogunbowale and Freeman finished the season as co-leads but neither was going to be featured for long. Pierce is back from his injury and the Texans also added a capable backup in Devin Singletary, who spent the first four years of his career in Buffalo, including at times as the lead back. Ogunbowale will be no better than third on the team's depth chart and probably fourth behind Mike Boone. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Serves as No. 2 back
Ogunbowale had two carries for seven yards and caught his lone target for 13 yards in Houston's 34-10 playoff loss to Baltimore last Saturday. He finished the 2023 regular season with eight carries for 35 yards and two catches on seven targets for 18 yards over 12 games.
ANALYSIS
Ogunbowale eventually became the No. 2 back behind Devin Singletary, surpassing Dameon Pierce, who struggled all season. Had Singletary gotten hurt at any point leading up to the postseason, perhaps the rotation might have been different. Ogunbowale, who enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, has been a valuable depth piece and special-teams regular since joining the Texans ahead of the 2022 season. He's returned kickoffs, served on coverage teams and even converted a 29-yard field goal attempt as the emergency kicker in a Week 9 win over Tampa Bay. The organization will likely want him back for 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Kicks go-ahead FG
Ogunbowale kicked a go-ahead, 29-yard field goal in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 39-37 win over the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn didn't play in the second half after injuring his quadriceps, so with the score tied 30-30 in the fourth quarter, Ogunbowale was called upon to kick the go-ahead field goal, and he made the kick. The running back's contribution as the emergency kicker proved crucial in a game Houston won by two points to improve to 4-4.

Ogunbowale, who was an undrafted free agent signed by the Texans in 2017, returns to Houston on a two-year deal. He never suited up for Houston other than preseason games but managed to carve out a marginal NFL career for three franchises over five seasons, most recently with Jacksonville. Ogunbowale joins a backfield in transition, which in theory means an opportunity (currently topping the depth chart are fourth-round pick Dameon Pierce and 32-year-old Rex Burkhead). However, the Texans likely kept Ogunbowale around for special teams and blocking, while a practice-squad call-up like Marlon Mack could be next in line for ground work if Pierce is demoted or misses time. Ogunbowale could see some targets if Burkhead needs to be replaced, but the passing-down role doesn't come with much upside.
