Aiken was released by the Eagles on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Aiken saw a fair amount of snaps in Week 1 and recorded five receptions for 39 yards, but had only one catch in the five games since. The addition of veteran Jordan Matthews to the roster in Week 3 and the return of Alshon Jeffery from shoulder surgery a week after that effectively resulted in Aiken being phased out of the Eagles' offensive game plans. With Aiken now out of the picture, Shelton Gibson and DeAndre Carter are solidified as the lone depth options behind the starting triumvirate of Jeffery, Nelson Agholor and Matthews.

With Steve Smith back in action for the Ravens last year, Aiken was an afterthought, seeing only 50 targets and not doing much with them (6.6 YPT). But in 2015, Aiken acquitted himself passably on 127 targets (7.4 YPT, in a weak passing offense). This year, Aiken should compete for the No. 3 job in a more potent offense in Indianapolis. At 6-2, 215, the 28-year old has good size, and he's fast too – he posted a 4.45 40. But coming into the league as an undrafted free agent, he simply hasn't had an extended chance outside of 2015, when six of his starts came with Matt Schaub, Ryan Mallett and Jimmy Clausen at QB. Aiken's opportunity is hardly guaranteed this season – the Colts would like nothing more than to see 2015 first-rounder Philip Dorsett live up to his draft pedigree – but if Aiken does win the job, he will be catching passes from Andrew Luck.
With most of the Ravens' starting skill players out for the year, Aiken got his opportunity and, under the circumstances, did not disappoint. Aiken managed 75 receptions on 127 targets despite catching passes from Matt Schaub, Ryan Mallett and Jimmy Clausen for six games after Joe Flacco went down. Aiken's per-play numbers were nothing special, and he didn't make many big plays (11 catches of 20-plus yards, two of 40-plus). At 6-2, 215, with 4.45 40 speed, Aiken has the physical traits of a No. 1 WR, but it's unclear if the 2011 undrafted free agent will get that chance this year even after Breshad Perriman partially tore his ACL in June. Besides 37-year-old Steve Smith potentially returning to siphon targets, the team signed TE Ben Watson and burner Mike Wallace to bolster its pass-catching depth.
Aiken, a 2011 UDFA, finally got a chance to play wide receiver in 2014, after bouncing around the league as a special-teams player through the first three years of his career. He impressively caught 24-of-32 targets for 267 yards and three touchdowns for the Ravens last season, but there's no facet of his skill set that really stands out. Still, with Baltimore lacking in proven talent at his position, Aiken should have the chance to compete for a significant role in the offense, but also in the mix for targets are Steve Smith, 2015 first-rounder Breshad Perriman, Michael Campanaro, and Marlon Brown.
Aiken is a long shot to make the final roster, and even more unlikely to emerge as a contributor on offense.
Aiken is still looking for his first NFL reception after entering the league in 2011 as an undrafted free agent. At 6-2, 213 pounds though, he has good size and while he's not necessarily a favorite to emerge out of training camp with a big role, Aiken will be part of the open competition for wideout looks that don't go to Danny Amendola.
An undrafted free agent out of Central Florida in 2011, Aiken landed on the practice squad and even got into the regular season lineup toward the end of the season. He did not catch a pass. The Bills had several injuries last season, and with a few new faces and some returnees from the IR, Aiken may be looking at the practice squad again.
Aiken, an undrafted receiver from Central Florida, spent most of the year on the practice squad in 2011 but was elevated to the regular team late in the season. He did not catch any passes. That was also a season where the Bills had a number of injuries, and with new receivers in the mix and others healthy again, Aiken might end up being practice squad material once more.
