NFL Waiver Wire: Week 6 Pickups

NFL Waiver Wire: Week 6 Pickups

This article is part of our NFL Waiver Wire series.

This column is geared toward "standard" 12-team leagues and based upon a $100 free-agent budget. Please, please adjust for your league based on both the number of teams (I'm in a 24-team league, for example) and budget. This column will run every Tuesday to, hopefully, accommodate the various waiver schedules. I'll update it in the comments section during the week; please keep in mind a lot can change from Tuesday to Sunday.

QUARTERBACK

Hail Mary

Kevin Hogan, CLE - DeShone Kizer has been awful this season, throwing nine interceptions with a 5.4 YPA. Hogan in limited work has been a bit better with three touchdown passes and a 9.9 YPA. It appears Hue Jackson, who is coaching for his job, is entertaining the possibility of switching the starting role to Hogan to give the Browns a chance to win. Hogan's attractiveness is geared toward two-quarterback/super-flex leagues, and he can add some fantasy point using his legs. Just realize his receivers leave something to be desired. FAAB: $1-$2, go $10ish on speculation in two-QB leagues

RUNNING BACK

Primary Targets

Aaron Jones, GB - Jones is 57 percent owned in Yahoo leagues and was discussed in the comments section of last week's piece. If he's still out there, break the bank to get him; he's likely to hold onto the starting job for at least the near future as ribs (Ty Montgomery) don't typically heal quickly. Playing for one of the league's elite quarterbacks will help, and this

Playing for one of the league's elite quarterbacks will help, and this offense will go up and down the field all season. FAAB: max bid

Wayne Gallman, Orleans Darkwa, NYG - Gallman had the majority of the touches later in the game Sunday and is the preferred pickup over Darwa, who managed to scamper for a 23-yard touchdown run against the Chargers. The Giants lost three of their top-four receiving targets, two for the season in Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall, and might be forced to turn to the running game. Gallman has proven a capable receiver out of the backfield, and with Paul Perkins nicked up, both he and Darkwa likely will be used more. FAAB: Gallman: $8-$12, Darkwa: $4-$8

Secondary Targets

Elijah McGuire, NYJ - The Jets' running back corps is depleted with both Matt Forte (knee, toe) and now Bilal Powell (calf) hampered by injuries. McGuire is the next man up and his 5.2 yards per carry suggests the rookie's more than capable of handling the backfield workload. His 7.9 yards per carry at Louisiana-Lafayette was impressive and his pass-catching skills are considered above-average, as well. If he ends up starting it's a great matchup this week against the Patriots' defense. FAAB: $4-$8

Jalen Richard, OAK - Richard had almost as many touches Sunday as Marshawn Lynch, whose high mileage is perhaps leading the Raiders to limit his workload (10.5 touches per game in the last four games). Richard had nine carries Sunday (37 yards) and was targeted twice in the passing games (no catches). Lynch will remain the lead back and Richard would be worthy of more FAAB except that DeAndre Washington should return soon and get touches too. FAAB: $2-$4

WIDE RECEIVER

Primary Targets

Roger Lewis, NYG - Lewis is suddenly the Giants' top wideout after the slaughter of the receiving corps Sunday. Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall suffered season-ending injuries and Sterling Shepard could miss Week 6 with an ankle injury. Lewis hauled in an over-the-shoulder catch for a score against the Chargers' Casey Heyward, one of the league's better corners. Even if Shepard plays this week, Lewis is in line for a lot of targets given the injuries, so bid high. FAAB: $5-$10

Secondary Targets

Ricardo Louis, CLE - With Kenny Britt injured/lacking motivation, the Browns will turn to another wide receiver to get targets and fantasy production. Louis appears to be that guy after a team-high eight targets Sunday led him to 5-71, also team bests. Cleveland likely will play from behind much of the season, putting Louis in good shape for garbage-time production. FAAB: $3-$6
