DraftKings NHL: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Connor Hellebuyck, WPG vs. STL ($8,400): Once again, the Jets are dominant at home with a 4-0-1 record and they face a Blues squad that still doesn't look very good even though they defeated the Leafs on Saturday. Hellebucyk is 5-2-0 with a .951 save percentage and 1.42 GAA in his career against the Blues and should be fully rested after a three-day break. As long as the Jets stay out of the penalty box, the win should be theirs.

CENTER

Nathan MacKinnon, COL at PHI ($8,100): MacKinnon's going for his third consecutive three-point game and the top line has powered the Avs to two straight wins on the road. The Flyers can be difficult to predict but their goaltending is consistently poor and expected starter Brian Elliott has a career .907 save percentage against the Avs in his career. MacKinnon's worth the premium because he's better than all the other centers playing Monday.

Sebastian Aho, CAR at DET ($6,900): Aho has scored a point in every single game this season and there's every reason to believe he's having a potential 100-point breakout season. He's playing a big role on offense on a pretty talented team and not having any trouble scoring at even strength, which are all positive signs. The Red Wings are last with a minus-17 goal differential and 36 goals allowed.

WING

Claude Giroux, PHI vs. COL ($6,100): He leads the team in scoring with 11 points and the Flyers are tied for second the league for goals scored, and fatigue might be setting in for the Avs on their current road trip, having lost their past two games in overtime and allowing more than 40 shots each. Giroux scored two goals in two games against the Avs last season.

Brock Boeser, VAN vs. WAS ($5,200): The Canucks return home after a long road trip and after a slow start Boeser now has five points in his past six games. Bo Horvat and Boeser have shown excellent chemistry and hooked up with an overtime winner against the favored Bruins on Saturday. Boeser's timing and shot still doesn't look right, but he's improving and provides a lot of upside for the price of a second-line player.

Nikolay Goldobin, VAN vs. WAS ($3,300): Goldobin has found himself in Travis Green's good graces and was bumped up to the top line. Horvat and Boeser are starting to click, and even though Goldobin has not scored a point in six games he's been creating a lot more chances recently and provides a good opportunity to stack a line for cheap. The Caps always seem a little sluggish in Vancouver.

DEFENSE

Dennis Cholowski, DET vs. CAR ($5,100): He's been one of the few bright spots for the Wings and already taking command of the blue line. He's averaging over 20 minutes per game and does everything you'd want in a defenseman: pass, skate, shoot and block shots. With five points in six games Cholowski has been a productive workhorse for them, and he'll get plenty of shots to block when they host the Canes, who rank first with 42.1 shots per game.

Vince Dunn, STL at WPG ($4,300): The Jets have spent more time in the sin bin than anybody, and with a sixth-ranked power play the Blues should be able to score. The Blues are underperforming and mixing up the defensive pairs, but Dunn is a high-upside option and an emerging talent as a quarterback. He has scored two goals on 13 shots in his past five games and might be a better deal than taking Alex Pietrangelo ($4,600).
