Yahoo DFS Hockey: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

It's a six-game Sunday slate with just three teams on the second half of back-to-back contests. The first puck drops at 3:30 ET and there are plenty of options, so here are some players to target and some to steer clear of:

GOALIE

Cam Talbot, EDM at CHI ($30): Both teams will be on the latter half of back-to-back games, but Talbot is the No. 1 goalie for Edmonton and his counterpart Cam Ward is a backup and has struggled so far this year. Furthermore, the Blackhawks are coming off an emotional loss against their division-rival Blues while the Oilers are hot offensively, scoring 14 goals over the last three games. The price is right to take a shot with Talbot even if the game could be high-scoring.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Henrik Lundqvist, NYR at LA ($34): As is a growing trend with Lundqvist, it's not his play that lands him on this list. He's impressed with a .920 save percentage through eight starts but has only registered two wins, as the Rangers have averaged just 1.75 goals per game with The King in net. The Kings have struggled immensely this year, but Lundqvist is overpriced with the liabilities in front of him.

CENTER

Mika Zibanejad, NYR at LA ($20): Zibanejad could be at the beginning of a breakout campaign with seven points in the last four games and nine on the season. The 25-year-old pivot continues getting major power-play minutes at 3:28 per game and will face off against a Kings' team that allows a goal on 25 percent of their penalty kills.

CENTER TO AVOID

Tyler Seguin, DAL at DET ($32): After a hot start with 10 points in the first four games, Seguin has dropped off and marked just one helper and a minus-3 rating in the last five outings. The Red Wings' goalie Jimmy Howard has stood strong lately with a .913 save percentage, so Seguin's price as the second-most expensive center doesn't pass the eye test.

WINGS

Teuvo Teravainen, CAR vs. NYI ($19): The 24-year old winger has 10 points through 10 games and has established an impressive 58.8 Corsi For percentage to back it up. The matchup is favorable since the Islanders are on the second half of back-to-back matchups and are set to start Thomas Greiss, who has compiled an .865 save percentage in his last three appearances.

Timo Meier, SJ at ANA ($18): Meier rides a seven-game point streak into this matchup, with eight points and 21 shots on goal during that span. He may be without linemate Tomas Hertl, but he's made plenty of chances for himself with a 58.3 Corsi For percentage. His power-play minutes will be key in this outing since the Ducks have allowed four goals on the penalty kill in the last four games.

WINGS TO AVOID

Anders Lee, NYI at CAR ($17): After he came out of the gate with two goals and an assist in the first four contests, some thought Lee was set for a heavy uptick in the absence of John Tavares. Although he has recorded just two points since, his 40.2 Corsi For percentage is unattractive for a top-line winger. Better options exist at the price.

Brandon Saad, CHI vs. EDM ($17): Saad's endured an inconsistent season, spending a three-game stint on the fourth line at one point. He notched an assist Saturday night against the Blues, but still has just five points in 11 games. Most of his value comes from being on a line with Patrick Kane, and Saad isn't worth the risk at this price with possible line changes coming after an ugly loss.

DEFENSEMEN

Neal Pionk, NYR at LA ($17): Pionk has led the Rangers in ice time thus far and has tallied six assists – including five on the power play – over the last four games to show for it. He also starts 54 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone. With a matchup against a struggling Kings' penalty kill, Pionk is set up to rake in helpers at a reasonable price.

Thomas Chabot, OTT at VGK ($17): Chabot remains underpriced based on his team, but the 21-year-old has filled Erik Karlsson's void and generated 11 points in nine games. The Golden Knights are tough defensively, but Chabot has failed to record a point just once thus far so his value is supreme in the six-game slate.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Dennis Cholowski, DET vs. DAL ($17): Cholowoski's been a gem with six points his first eight NHL games, but his value is derived from the power play, where he's notched five of those. The matchup isn't favorable, as Stars' goalie Ben Bishop has posted a .935 save percentage over the last three games and hasn't allowed a power-play goal during that span.

Cam Fowler, ANA vs. SJ ($17): Fowler mans the top defensive pairing in Anaheim and has suffered from facing the opposing team's top line, registering a 40.3 Corsi For percentage through 11 games with just four assists. The veteran also has a low ceiling with below a half-point per game in his career, so there's simply better options on the dollar.
