DraftKings NHL: Wednesday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

John Gibson, ANA vs. OTT ($8,200): I don't love this pick since Gibson has been rather pedestrian in his past seven appearances, but it's hard to pass up a match against Ottawa. Gibson is 0-2-2 in four straight home games, and in three of those, Anaheim has allowed 30 shots or more. If there's one thing that worries me, it's the inconsistency of the Ducks, who lost to Vegas and Tampa by one goal but also lost to Edmonton in a shutout. Gibson has a career .932 save percentage against Ottawa.

CENTER

Sean Monahan, CGY vs. COL ($7,000): The Flames will likely face Semyon Varlamov, who hasn't played since Dec. 31, and the Avs are coming off a 7-4 loss to the Jets last night. Monahan is on a five-game point streak, including a five-assist effort against the Sharks, and comes at a $1,000 discount to Nathan MacKinnon. Since Dec. 1, Monahan has actually outscored MacKinnon 27 to 24, so consider Monahan a bargain given tonight's slate.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau, OTT at ANA ($3,500): With Matt Duchene out, Pageau and Colin White ($3,900) will have to step up. While White is between Mark Stone and Brady Tkachuk, Pageau will likely slot in between Bobby Ryan and Ryan Dzingel, but I prefer Pageau because he has more experience and a better track record. He scored a goal in his season debut, and even though he played just 13 minutes last game, expect that number to keep climbing.

WING

Mikko Rantanen, COL at CGY ($7,300): Rantanen has four points in his past two games, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to hedge your bets in what could be a high-scoring affair with Rantanen and Monahan. The Avs' top line has slowed down a little but should have no problem facing an inconsistent Mike Smith. Johnny Gaudreau ($7,900) comes at a premium and Patrick Kane ($7,400) has to face the Preds.

Filip Forsberg, NSH at CHI ($6,100): He looked okay Monday in his first game back, but at least the Predsators' top line is now healthy after what seemed like forever. Forsberg was eased back into the lineup and played just 13 minutes against Toronto, flipping between the first and fourth line. The Blackhawks have allowed 40-plus shots in three of Collin Delia's five starts.

Alex DeBrincat, CHI vs. NSH ($5,600): DeBrincat is starting to look like he might go on a tear with a goal in each of his past two games. Though he's playing on the third line, DeBrincat gets power-play opportunities with the top unit. Special teams has not been Chicago's strength this season, but its power play has certainly improved since DeBrincat and Dylan Strome joined.

DEFENSE

P.K. Subban, NSH at CHI ($5,500): You can't go wrong with Subban or Roman Josi ($5,800), but why not go with the cheaper option if the difference is marginal? Subban has four points in his past three games, none of which came on the power play, which is surprising but probably won't be a long-term trend thanks to Chicago's atrocious penalty kill.

Josh Mahura, ANA vs. OTT ($2,800): Mahura has two assists in his past three games and quarterbacked the second power-play unit last time out. Brandon Montour ($4,600) has more upside but has experienced a dry spell, and Cam Fowler ($5,100) gets the most ice time but doesn't provide much dynamic offense. If Mahura gets sent down to the AHL, go with Montour.
