The weather is about to get absolutely freezing in certain areas of the United States. So why not stay in and watch some hockey? There are seven NHL games on the slate. Here are my recommendations for your daily fantasy lineup.
GOALIE
Petr Mrazek, CAR vs. OTT ($7,700): Mrazek has had a middling season, but since the Hurricanes have only allowed 28.2 shots on net per game, he has a 2.67 GAA. The Senators aren't a team that manages to put too many pucks on goal. In fact, Ottawa has only averaged 27.7 shots on net per contest on the road.
CENTER
Sebastian Aho, CAR vs. OTT ($6,600): If you think Ottawa's offense is bad, its defense is even worse. In fact, the Senators have a staggering 4.50 GAA on the road. You don't need to be great to take advantage of that, but Aho has 51 points in 46 games, so he doesn't even need an easy matchup to post points.
Mikael Backlund, CGY vs. DET ($5,600): Backlund has four points in his last four games, giving him 25 points on the season. He doesn't have any power-play points, but he doesn't need success with the extra man in this matchup. The Red Wings have a 3.64 GAA on the road.
WING
Sam Reinhart, BUF at VAN ($6,300): The joys of playing on a line with Jack Eichel and Jeff Skinner! He has 43 points in 47 games, including 11 with the extra man. The 23-year-old has also been busy recently, as he has 20 shots in his last eight contests. As for the Canucks, they have a 3.08 GAA, bottom 10 in the NHL.
Mike Hoffman, FLA vs. TOR ($6,200): Hoffman isn't as hot as he was when the season began, but he has seven goals in his last 12 contests. He's also started 59.8 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, most on the Panthers. The Maple Leafs are on the road for the second night of a back-to-back, which means Frederik Andersen will have to start two games in a row, or Garret Sparks (3.01 GAA) will get his first start back from a concussion issue.
Jordan Eberle, NYI at WAS ($5,700): Eberle has had some ups and downs this season, but over his last 11 games he has 10 points. Though the Islanders played last night, there is still a reason to like Eberle in this matchup. Braden Holtby is banged up, and Pheonix Copley has a 2.91 GAA and .906 save percentage.
DEFENSE
Dougie Hamilton, CAR vs. OTT ($4,900): Hamilton has been quite busy offensively, as he's put 147 pucks on goal through 46 contests. I previously mentioned that the Senators have a 4.50 road GAA. On top of that, they've given up 37.2 shots on net per contest in away games.
T.J. Brodie, CGY vs. DET ($4,300): Brodie, who skates on Calgary's top pairing with Mark Giordano, has picked up his offensive recently. Over his last eight games, he's picked up six points. As previously noted, the Red Wings have a 3.64 road GAA, and they've allowed 33.9 shots on goal per game away from home.
