DraftKings NHL: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

David Rittich, CGY at ANA ($8,300): On a light slate with just three games, picking the obvious win isn't such a bad idea. Mike Smith could get the start but he costs the same so it doesn't change much. He'll get lots of goal support from a Flames offense that has exploded for 18 goals in three games, and Rittich's been excellent on the road all season (14-6-1, .933, 2.04). The Ducks are expected to be without Ryan Getzlaf.

CENTER

Dylan Strome, CHI vs. STL ($4,400): He's tailed off since first arriving in Chicago but he's also coming off a three-point effort against the Jets. His production is very much dependent on the power play because he doesn't pass the eye test with his lack of speed nor the numbers test with his poor possession numbers. However, at this price, Strome's upside may be worth the risk.

Sam Steel, ANA vs. CGY ($3,500): He's playing on the top line with Rickard Rakell and Jakob Silfverberg, making him a very strong value play. The Flames are heavily favored but their goaltending isn't always reliable, and they've allowed five or more goals 13 times this season, including a league-high nine goals against the Pens. Steel has recorded a shot on goal in 14 straight games and averaged over 15 minutes per game in March.

WING

Brady Tkachuk, OTT at NYR ($5,600): Tkachuk's on a three-game point streak and expected starter Henrik Lundqvist has been shellacked all season. The King's reign is nearing its end, and despite a solid first two months has looked fatigue ever since. The Sens are an easy target but they've got a good collection of young talent, and since March 1 have scored 43 goals, one more than the Blackhawks and Avalanche, two teams with elite scorers.

James Neal, CGY at ANA ($3,400): The Real Deal is getting hot. He's scored just seven goals in 61 games this season, but has scored two of them in his past three games. He's no longer a high-volume shooter like he once was, but his shooting percentage is at a career-low (5.1), which means he's a prime candidate to bounce back at some point. The Flames offense has been on fire of late.

Andrew Mangiapane, CGY at ANA ($2,800): He's cheap because he has just 13 points this season, but he scored half of them in March and currently fifth among the team's forwards (min. 40 GP) in Corsi at 55.3 percent. Mangiapane and linemate Derek Ryan ($3,300) have combined for six points over the past three games, making them one of the best third-line (and shortest) duos in the league.

DEFENSE

Thomas Chabot, OTT at NYR ($5,400): In my books he's already elite and is well worth the money at this price, especially when Alex Pietrangelo ($5,800) averages fewer fantasy points per game. Against the Rangers he'll be facing a young squad with a mediocre blue line and an aging goaltender, and Marc Crawford's squads tend to be quite aggressive on offense.

Vince Dunn, STL at CHI ($4,200): He played over 20 minutes for the fourth straight game against the Avalanche, registering two shots and one blocked shot. It wasn't a memorable performance, but the Blackhawks defense and goaltending are particularly vulnerable, having allowed 282 goals, second-worst in the league, and hopefully Dunn can capitalize on the easy matchup with the second power-play unit.
