Yahoo DFS Hockey: Saturday Breakdown

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Saturday Breakdown

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Saturday is a rare slate that features 15 games, meaning all but one team will lace up the skates. It includes 10 evening matchups, which this article will focus on. Nine of the clubs will be playing on the second half of back-to-back outings, including three contests with both teams in such a setting. Read on for tips and tricks to stake your claim to DFS glory.

GOALIE

Jordan Binnington, STL vs. ANA ($34): The Ducks travel to St. Louis looking to kick a five-game losing streak where they averaged 2.4 GPG. On the other hand, Binnington has a 4-0-1 record over his last five contests while registering a .940 save percentage. It doesn't hurt that he hasn't lost in regulation at home this year, either.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Tristan Jarry, PIT vs. TOR ($30): Jarry has impressed in limited action this year, as he's posted a .929 save percentage. Unfortunately, a lack of offensive support leaves the 24-year-old with a 1-3-0 record. Jarry may be on the short end of the stick again, as Sidney Crosby (sports hernia) is out, and Toronto comes to town after a close loss to the rival Bruins.

CENTER

Brayden Schenn, STL vs. ANA ($20): Schenn earned a max-term extension in October, but he's playing like he wants another one. The veteran pivot paces the Blues with 11 goals -- four with the man advantage. That success will come in handy, as the Ducks' home-road split on the penalty kill is real, as they have a tepid 75 percent rate on the road.

CENTER TO AVOID

Mathew Barzal, NYI at PHI ($23): Barzal is on the brink of a point-per-game pace yet again, but the center is scoring at a rate 7.3 percent higher than his career mark despite an unimpressive 48.1 Corsi For percentage. It should regress to the mean at some point, and facing off against the Flyers -- who have yielded 1.6 GPG in November -- could be the start of that slide.

WING

Evander Kane, SJ vs. DET ($24): When the Sharks were slumping, Kane was a lone bright spot for the club. The team's back in its groove, though, and his success hasn't stopped, as the 28-year-old ranks sixth in the league with 12 goals while scoring on a whopping 17.9 percent of his shots. He's poised to keep stacking up the points, since Detroit has allowed 4.0 GPG on the road.

Evgenii Dadonov, FLA vs. NYR ($19): The Panthers are fairly top-heavy, with 38 percent of their goals coming from the top line. As such, coach Joel Quenneville gives it plenty of opportunities to succeed, so Dadonov starts a colossal 66.7 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone. The 30-year-old manages the top power play as well, which is in a prime position against the Rangers' 27th-ranked traveling penalty kill (71 percent).

WINGS TO AVOID

Anders Lee, NYI at PHI ($19): Lee's in the midst of a cold streak with no goals and just one helper over his last five outings, and his 47.1 Corsi For percentage is the lowest rate of his career. The 29-year-old has finished pointless in three of his last four games against the Flyers as well, making it a tough time to turn things around.

J.T. Miller, VAN vs. COL ($21): The 26-year-old has been demoted from top line with Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser down to the third unit. Miller hasn't posted a point since, and he failed to record a shot on net Thursday. He'll remain overpriced unless he's promoted again.

DEFENSE

Keith Yandle, FLA vs. NYR ($25): November is Yandle's month. It always has been, as he's posted 0.63 PPG in November games -- the highest rate of his career. The 2019-20 campaign is no exception, as the veteran has three multi-point performances in six contests and nine total points, including four on the power play. As mentioned, the Rangers' penalty kill is in rough shape, so Yandle's poised for another intriguing performance.

Erik Gustafsson, CHI at NSH ($16): Gustafsson was a power-play guru last year with four goals and 14 helpers with the man advantage. He's struggled to establish himself in that arena this year, but he's in a good position to get back on track against Nashville's 75-percent kill rate.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Ryan Ellis, NSH vs. CHI ($20): Ellis fired out of the gate hot this year, but his performance has tapered off as he's posted single-digit fantasy points in nine straight outings. Robin Lehner has been a tough netminder to crack this year with a .934 save percentage, so he could stymie Ellis' shot at a get-right game.

Tyson Barrie, TOR at PIT ($18): Barrie's arrival in Toronto hasn't gone as planned. The 28-year-old isn't the power-play menace he was in Colorado, and he's recorded just one even-strength point over the last 17 contests. While he's averaging 2.5 shots on net per game, it's not enough for a player of his caliber. Barrie should find his game eventually, but DFS gamers should tread lightly until that happens.
