Mallet was traded to the Islanders on Tuesday along with a future third-round draft pick in exchange for defenseman Andrey Pedan.
ANALYSIS
After failing to make much of an impact with AHL Utica last season, Mallet had been dropped down to ECHL Kalamazoo to kick off the 2014-15 campaign. It seemed to be a sign that the Canucks weren't optimistic about the former second-rounder's future prospects, prompting the team to deal him before his value completely bottomed out. The 22-year-old should get a look at AHL Bridgeport with his new organization, but it's probably unlikely that he makes an impact for the Islanders anytime soon.

2012 Fantasy Outlook
The Canucks selected Mallet with the 57th overall pick of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Mallet came out of nowhere in 2011-12 to post 81 points (34 G, 47 A) in 68 games for Rimouski of the QMJHL. He’s often praised for his grit and high-energy levels on the ice, making him an ideal two-way center, but Mallet has also displayed good enough hands and vision to have possible top-six upside. Consider him another interesting name to place on your radar when monitoring first-time AHL players.
