Charles Hudon
Charles Hudon
24-Year-Old Left WingLW
Montreal Canadiens
2018 Fantasy Outlook
Hudon got his first extended taste of NHL action in 2017-18 and gave both his supporters and detractors something to latch onto. To the good, he was fourth in shots (179) and was over 50 percent in Corsi For. To the bad, he had just 10 goals and 30 points in 72 games while finishing with a shooting percentage of 5.6, lower than Montreal's league-worst team mark of 7.7 percent. Digging a little deeper, there's more to support the good than the bad. The 24-year-old forward generated a high volume of shots in just 14:02 of ice time, mostly while skating with lesser skilled forwards on the third line. If the Habs are serious about rebuilding, giving Hudon more ice time in a top-six environment should be part of the plan. Skating with better forwards could lead to Hudon converting more of those shot attempts into goals. Read Past Outlooks
Sparks comeback Saturday
LWMontreal Canadiens
November 11, 2018
Hudon scored a goal on two shots, registered a hit and was assessed a two-minute minor penalty over 9:37 of ice time in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Golden Knights.
ANALYSIS
Vegas scored two quick goals late in the first period and held the lead to start the second before the young Canadiens made the game competitive. Hudon started the comeback, taking a nifty feed from rookie Jesperi Kotkaniemi, then faking the forehand before finishing with a backhander past Vegas goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. The goal ignited the listless Canadiens, who snapped a two-game losing streak. It was Hudon's third goal of the season and first in nine games. He knows his way around the offensive zone, but until he improves his 200-foot game, his ice time will be limited.

2017 Fantasy Outlook
While the Vegas Golden Knights may have passed on Charles Hudon, many hockey observers felt he was ready for the NHL and the Canadiens agreed. He made the opening-night roster and will skate as the left winger on the third line after posting three very productive seasons in the AHL. The 23-year-old forward amassed 162 points in 207 regular-season games in the minors. Originally known for his playmaking skills, Hudon has developed into quite a sniper in the AHL. The hope is that Hudon becomes a secondary scoring source, a la Artturi Lekhonen in 2016-17. He's essentially an offensive machine and will be given the opportunity to flash that offense in 2017-18.
