Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Tuesday's slate features 14 teams in action, so there are plenty of options when building your Yahoo DFS lineup. Let's get started…

GOALIE

Jacob Markstrom, VAN vs. OTT ($22)

In his first start of the season Saturday, Markstrom held Connor McDavid and the high-powered Oilers offense to just two goals on 35 shots in an impressive win. The 27-year-old keeper is being called upon to be "the guy" in Vancouver and had some decent metrics as a backup to Ryan Miller last season, posting a .910 save percentage and 2.53 GAA in 26 appearances. Either way, you can't beat that price tag at home against an Ottawa squad that is missing superstar defenseman Erik Karlsson, among other key assets.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Ben Bishop, DAL vs. DET ($32)

Bishop achieved a shutout in his first start of the season Saturday but was unable to come away with the W, making only 19 saves against an untested Vegas team. The veteran goaltender has been cleared to play following a concussion, but it still might be a rough go for him against a hot Detroit team that's 2-0-0.

CENTER

Jordan Weal, PHI @ NSH ($17)

Weal has quietly been a solid contributor for a resurgent Flyers squad, netting a goal and an assist in the team's first three games. The 25-year-old's price won't break the bank, and he'll face a Predators team that is coming off a deflating shutout loss to the Penguins on Saturday. It's also nice that he has seemed to establish himself on the power play, averaging 3:07 with the unit so far and scoring a goal along the way.

CENTER TO AVOID

Claude Giroux, PHI @ NSH ($20)

Giroux has managed a goal and an assist through the Flyers' first three games. This is fine production, but at $20 he's the third most expensive center on the board, making it tough to justify rostering him. Plus, besides Weal, the Philadelphia offense has plenty of other weapons that could take looks away from Giroux, lessening his value.

WING

James Neal, VGK vs. ARI ($19)

It will be a big Tuesday night in Vegas when the Golden Knights play their first game at T-Mobile Area, and somewhat surprisingly, the expansion franchise finds itself undefeated after two road victories. Neal, one of the headline picks in the Expansion Draft, has been a major factor in the hot start, contributing three goals and a plus-4 rating while averaging 4:09 of ice time on the power play. The former Predator, Penguin and Star just scored in a win over the Coyotes on Saturday, so it seems fitting that he could do it again on this historic night.

Richard Panik, CHI @ MON ($18)

The Blackhawks offense has been electric through three contests, piling up 18 goals in its first four games. Panik has been central to it -- he's scored in every game thus far and was able to grab his first power-play tally in an overtime loss to the Maple Leafs on Monday. Chicago is playing the second of a back-to-back, but Montreal's play has been uninspiring through three games.

WINGS TO AVOID

Jamie Benn, DAL vs. DET ($26)

The Stars offense has largely struggled to generate quality scoring chances, as they are tied for 16th in the league with three goals per game despite taking a league-high 43 shots on goal per game. Benn has struggled with the rest of his team and has yet to find himself on the scoresheet this season. It may be tough to turn it around against a Detroit squad that has allowed just 1.5 goals per game thus far.

Max Domi, ARI @ VGK ($18)

Domi had a solid season debut, notching a goal and an assist in Anaheim on Thursday, but he followed that up with a scoreless clunker against the Golden Knights on Saturday. The 22-year-old hasn't been shooting enough to justify his current price point, and it might be difficult for him to get anything done in Vegas' important home opener.

DEFENSE

Alex Pietrangelo, STL @ NYR ($22)

Pietrangelo has been on a heater to start the season, tallying two goals and three assists while racking up 16 shots on goal and a plus-2 rating over the first three games. The 2008 first-round pick is the main power-play quarterback for St. Louis and currently leads the team in average ice time. He'll have a good chance to keep the hot streak going against a Rangers squad that is averaging four goals allowed per game thus far.

Jan Rutta, CHI @ MON ($13)

Rutta's price remains low despite having put up four points in three games. Inevitably, the scoring will have to slow down, but it's encouraging that Rutta has been defensively sound, currently leading the league with a plus-7 rating. At that price point, he figures to be a good play against a Montreal squad that has struggled at both ends of the ice.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Kevin Shattenkirk, NYR vs. STL ($22)

Shattenkirk has been one of the hottest names in terms of fantasy defensemen over the last few years, but his play to start this season has mostly not lived up to the hype -- he has a goal and two assists, but is sporting a minus-2 rating through three games. The $22 price tag doesn't justify playing him in this spot, especially against a red-hot Blues squad.

Seth Jones, CLS @ CAR ($19)

Jones has been relatively quiet through the Blue Jackets' first two games, notching just an assist and five shots on goal with a minus-one rating. The Texas native is averaging only 1:30 of ice time on the power play this season, giving him limited appeal in that regard as well. Carolina has been at least decent on both ends of the ice this season, so Jones could be in for another mediocre outing Tuesday.
