DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Tuukka Rask, BOS at VGK ($7,400): The Bruins righted the ship with a 6-2 win over Arizona on Saturday, and the Vegas bubble is going to burst sooner than later. So, with a discounted salary, Rask stands as a solid option to turn to in this shallow goalie pool. He's definitely risky with a .870 save percentage through his first three starts, though.

CENTER

Rickard Rakell, ANA vs. BUF ($6,600): Even if Ryan Getzlaf (lower body) returns for Sunday's game, Rakell will still be a solid option. The 24-year-old forward averages 20:53 of ice time (3:54 on the power play) and provides a high-floor, high-ceiling combo with two goals, four points and 21 shots through five outings. The Sabres also enter on the second leg of back-to-back road games and have allowed 20 goals through five games.

Jeff Carter, LA vs. NYI ($5,900): This sets up as a soft matchup for Los Angeles with the Islanders on the second leg of back-to-back road games, so look for Carter to build on the momentum of his two-point showing against Buffalo on Saturday. The veteran has averaged 4:13 of power-play time to begin the season and is one of just 10 skaters to post at least 20 goals, 50 points and 200 shots in each of the last four seasons. Take advantage of his manageable cap hit.

WING

David Pastrnak, BOS at VGK ($7,100): As noted, Boston got on track Saturday, and Pastrnak recorded a goal, an assist and a pair of shots in the 6-2 win over Arizona. He posted an elite 3.11 points per 60 minutes last season, and with Vegas surrendering 13.1 high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes, Pastrnak is in position to have another solid showing.

Jason Pominville, BUF at ANA ($5,000): The veteran winger has found a groove flanking Jack Eichel, as Pominville has collected four goals and six points while averaging 2:30 of power-play time through five games this season. The Ducks are dealing with a number of significant injuries, too, so this might not be the daunting matchup it would traditionally check out as.

Zemgus Girgensons, BUF at ANA ($4,100): Another Sabre with a low salary to target, Girgensons has been playing with Jack Eichel and Jason Pominville. The 23-year-old Latvian has flashed offensive upside throughout his five-year career, and Girgensons is positioned to succeed, as he's now collected a goal and two helpers through two games since being promoted to a scoring role. While his ownership should be low, he shouldn't be viewed as anything other than a flier.

DEFENSE

Drew Doughty, LA vs. NYI ($5,800): With limited options, it's always nice to lock in a high-floor defenseman. Doughty has recorded four points, 13 shots and 14 blocked shots while logging 25:48 of ice time (4:34 on the power play) through four games. This projects as a solid schedule spot for the Kings, as noted.

Brandon Montour, ANA vs. BUF ($3,800): The 23-year-old defenseman has slotted into a bigger role with Anaheim missing blue liners to start the campaign. Montour's posted a respectable two points, 13 shots and 11 blocked shots while averaging 19:34 of ice time (2:49 on the power play) through the first five games of the season. He's a worthy low-priced flier with the projected soft matchup against Buffalo on tap.
