DraftKings NHL: Friday Picks

DraftKings NHL: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Devan Dubnyk, MIN at ANA ($7,300): The veteran has been up and down all season and owns a mediocre .914 save percentage and 2.78 GAA as a result. However, his upside is worth chasing at this salary. Dubnyk also draws the injury-depleted Ducks, and Anaheim is generating the fifth fewest high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes at five-on-five in the league.

CENTER

Nicklas Backstrom, WAS vs. NYR ($5,900): The veteran pivot broke out with a three-point night last time out, and now he grabs a soft matchup against the Rangers. New York will be without top center Mika Zibanejad (upper body), so there should be softer on-ice matchups for Backstrom. Additionally, the Blueshirts have surrendered the most high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes at five-on-five.

Alexander Wennberg, CLM at NJD ($4,400): After recording 2.41 points per 60 minutes last season, Wennberg has just 1.48 this season and is currently mired in a dreadful slump with a single assist through his past 10 games. Statistical correction is ahead, and with a top-six role and power-play time, the 23-year-old center is worth a look at this salary.

WING

Patrick Kane, CHI vs. BUF ($7,800): Sporting a three-game point drought with just seven shots on net, this is a ripe bounce-back spot for Kane. He's collected 18 points -- five goals -- through 13 home games this season, and Buffalo is 4-8-3 on the road with 3.76 goals allowed per 60 minutes. Kane has also recorded eight tallies, seven helpers and 61 shots through 13 career games against his hometown team, for what it's worth.

Mikael Granlund, MIN at ANA ($5,700): The Ducks have the worst shot share (42.7 percent) in the league and are allowing the fifth most high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes (12.48) through their past 10 contests. It's a ripe matchup for Granlund to get back on track offensively, as while he has five tallies and six helpers through his past 11 games, just one of the goals has come in his latest five outings.

Kevin Fiala, NAS vs. VGK ($4,600): Sporting a three-game goal streak, Fiala is up to an impressive five tallies, six helpers and 34 shots through his past 12 games. He's clicking on a line with Craig Smith and Kyle Turris and receiving power-play looks. With Vegas allowing 3.06 goals per 60 minutes on the road, this is a solid matchup for the young winger to stay hot in.

DEFENSE

Mattias Ekholm, NAS vs. VGK ($4,800): The 27-year-old blue liner is in the midst of a strong run with five goals, 15 points, 31 shots and 25 blocked shots while logging 24:24 of ice time (2:26 on the power play) per contest through his past 18 games. As noted, the Golden Knights haven't been as strong on the road (6-7-1), and Ekholm's salary is easy to slide under the cap.

Jonas Brodin, MIN at ANA ($3,200): A true low-priced flier, Brodin is projected to receive power-play looks with the same unit as Mikael Granlund and checks out as a potential piece of a Minnesota stack. The 24-year-old defenseman is willing shot-blocker, and he's currently skating on the second pair, so he'll have opportunities to meet value. Call it a hunch that he also marks the scoresheet.
