DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

GOALIE

Carey Price, MON vs. OTT ($7,800): With just a single win through his past eight starts, Price is ripe for a contest-winning showing against Ottawa. The Senators are without a number of go-to scorers, and Montreal is coming off a statement home win over Anaheim on Saturday. Both teams are playing the second leg of a back-to-back set, so siding with the home club and elite talent in the blue paint is advised. For what it's worth, the Rotowire lineup optimizer is also bullish about Price.

CENTER

Evgeny Kuznetsov, WAS vs. VGK ($6,300): The 25-year-old Russian has marked the scoresheet in seven of his past nine contests for nine points and 19 shots. Kuznetsov has also been promoted to the No. 1 line alongside Alex Ovechkin, so his playmaking skills receive a considerable boost. Add No. 1 power-play duty, and Kuznetsov is positioned to reward with Vegas playing its fourth road game this week.

Jordan Staal, CAR vs. SJ ($5,300): The Sharks are suiting up for their fourth road game in six days, which also happens to be an afternoon contest. It checks out as a favorable matchup for Staal and the Canes, and the veteran center has collected just a single goal and assist through his past six contests. Considering he's combined with linemates Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen for 5.02 goals per 60 minutes this season, this sets up as an ideal spot to end the dry spell.

WING

Alex Ovechkin, WAS vs. VGK ($7,900): As noted, the Golden Knights are in a difficult schedule spot playing an afternoon road game, and Ovechkin enters in elite form. No. 8 has nine tallies and 10 helpers through his past 13 contests to propel him up to 1.89 goals, 3.31 points and 14.88 shots per 60 minutes for the campaign. His salary isn't prohibitive enough to ignore with just six teams in play.

Kevin Labanc, SJ at CAR ($4,900): After scoring 234 points through his final two seasons in the OHL, Labanc has scored his way into a top-six role with the Sharks. His 2.63 points per 60 minutes rank second to just Logan Couture on the team, and the 22-year-old winger has recorded three goals, six assists and 25 shots through his past eight contests.

Alex Galchenyuk, MON vs. OTT ($4,700): The Senators have gone 9-21-4 with 3.45 goals and 12.66 high-danger scoring chances allowed since their mid-November slide. Galchenyuk's game-to-game consistency is lacking, but he's collected a respectable five goals, seven assists and 51 shots through his past 19 contests, which makes his salary manageable.

DEFENSE

John Carlson, WAS vs. VGK ($6,200): The go-to defenseman has missed the scoresheet in just three of his past 13 games and collected four goals, 13 points, 46 shots and 22 blocked shots during the surge. As noted, this projects as a favorable schedule spot for Washington, and Carlson is a top option from the player pool. His salary is manageable, too.

Colin Miller VGK at WAS ($4,200): The Capitals are allowing the most high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes (13.14) in the league, and Miller has collected two goals, five assists and 16 shots through his past six outings. The 25-year-old defenseman has recorded 1.74 points per 60 minutes this season and receives power-play time, so he checks out as a sneaky discount.
