ONE extends event postponements
FlyweightOther
April 28, 2020
Johnson's scheduled title shot May 29 against Adriano Moraes has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
While Johnson was one of the most dominant champions in history during his time in the UFC, he was forced to work his way up again under the banner of ONE Championship. Johnson made his ONE debut in March of 2019 with a second-round submission win over Yuya Wakamatsu, and followed that up with back-to-back decision wins against Tasumitsu Wada and Danny Kingad in August and October, respectively. Johnson was finally scheduled to get a shot at the belt on the promotion's upcoming "Infinity" card on May 29, but it now appears June will be the earliest he can compete. The company had previously postponed all events through the month of April, and it announced Monday that the order would extend through May. ONE's next event on the calendar is scheduled to take place June 5 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Takes care of business in ONE debut
FlyweightOther
March 31, 2019
Johnson defeated Yuya Wakamatsu via submission (guillotine choke) at 2:40 of Round 2 at One Championship - A New Era on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Johnson entered this bout as a gigantic favorite of (-2100) or greater depending on the sportsbook you visited. The fact he let this one go to the second round was a bit surprising, but he ended up cashing in the finish, even though he was wearing it a little bit at the end. While the ONE promotion has a new TV deal and is growing in popularity, don't expect them to offer Johnson an opponent that truly tests him, barring an unforeseen signing. Johnson is the greatest flyweight fighter the UFC has ever had, and many give him the "greatest of all time" tag. He's still just 32 years old, and should dominate as long as he continues in the sport.
Eyeing early 2019 debut in ONE
FlyweightOther
October 29, 2018
Johnson (knee) said Sunday that he's hopeful to make his ONE Championship debut in January or February, Damon Martin of MMA Weekly reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnson's comments came one day after he was traded to the promotion, with Ben Askren heading to the UFC in a corresponding move. Mighty Mouse relayed that he left the UFC on good terms, but felt that he had accomplished everything possible in that promotion, which motivated him to test his luck with ONE. It shouldn't take long for Johnson to establish himself as the top flyweight on the ONE roster, though the 32-year-old indicated that he intends to prove himself in the new promotion first before challenging for a title.
Officially released from UFC to sign with ONE

October 27, 2018
Johnson (knee) was traded to ONE Championship in exchange for Ben Askren on Saturday, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
After losing to Henry Cejudo back in August, Johnson may have relinquished his belt, but he had previously accomplished just about all he could under the UFC banner. He'll now have a chance to showcase his world-class skills against an entirely new group of an opponents, in a deal that truly works well for both sides. "Mighty Mouse" has a 15-2-1 record in UFC, and is regarded as one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters of all time, so look for him to compete for a belt under the ONE banner as soon as he's healthy. This also potentially means the end of the men's flyweight division in the UFC, as Cejudo is rumored to move up to bantamweight to fight T.J. Dillashaw, while other top contenders like Sergio Pettis have already announced their intent to move up.
Could require surgery
FlyweightOther
August 13, 2018
Johnson was diagnosed with a high-grade partial tear in his LCL, which may require a surgical procedure in the near future, Aaron Bronsteter of TSN Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
At this point, it appears as though Johnson is deciding whether surgery is the best option after he suffered the injury during his UFC 227 loss to Henry Cejudo last weekend. The 32-year-old is also dealing with a few other knee-related injuries, so either way, he will need some time off before returning to the cage. Look for Johnson to come to a decision within the next couple weeks.
Reveals potential knee and foot injuries
FlyweightOther
August 6, 2018
Johnson revealed to reporters in his post-fight press conference that he believes he suffered a torn right LCL and broken foot in his UFC 227 loss to Henry Cejudo, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnson suffered a narrow, split-decision loss at UFC 227, ending his reign as the longest-running champion among active UFC fighters. It appears he has suffered a few serious injuries to make matters worse, which could potentially affect his chances of getting an immediate rematch with Cejudo. Should his injuries require surgery and/or an extended absence, it's possible Cejudo could instead move up a weight class to fight bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw -- a move that Johnson had previously been unwilling to make. No current champion is more entitled to an immediate rematch than Johnson, but it remains to be seen how his health will affect those plans.
