Will face Omari Akhmedov in Wichita
Boetsch will take on Omari Akhmedov in a middleweight bout at UFC Wichita on March 9.

The 37-year-old Boetsch has been in a lengthy slump. He's lost two of his last three matches, five of his last eight and eight of his last 13. He'll face a fighter in Akhmedov who hasn't lost any of his last three bouts, though his most recent match against Marvin Vettori in Dec. 2017 ended in a draw. Injuries kept Akhmedov away from competition for the entirety of 2018.

As has been the case for the last several years, Boetsch needs to retire. The 37-year-old predictably showed no ability to handle Carlos Junior's constant pressure and elite ground game. Boetsch is at the point in his career where he just fires off monster power shots all night long and prays that one of them connects. It didn't happen on Saturday. Boetsch is 3-2 in his last five fights dating back to July 2016, but he has fought considerably worse than that record would lead you to believe. The UFC has little to gain at this point by keeping him around.

Boetsch received a medical suspension of 180 days from the Oklahoma State Athletic Commission following his UFC Fight Night 112 victory over Johny Hendricks, MMAJunkie.com reports.

Boetsch was able to land significant shots to all parts of Johny Hendricks while maintaining his distance. This strategy kept Boetsch out of range from Henrick's left hand. After landing a kick that unbalanced "Bigg Rigg" in Round 2, "The Barbarian" threw a series of uppercuts and finished the match with head punches while on the mat. The battle led to a KO/TKO win that advanced his record to 21-11 (12-10 UFC) and also a possible right foot and shin injuries for Boetsch. As a result, he was given 180-day medical suspension, unless cleared earlier by a physician. Other fighters with long suspensions pending clearance include Michael Chiesa, Felice Herrig, Vitor Miranda, Devin Powell and Johnny Case.

He also did a good job of not circling into "Bigg Rigg's" left hand. Early in the second round Boetsch landed a right high kick that rocked Hendricks and he took advantage of the opportunity by landing multiple uppercuts and ultimately finishing Hendricks with punches on the ground. He'll take home a cool $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for his effort.
