Handed six-month medical suspension
Cormier (eye) has been given a six-month suspension or will need clearance from an ophthalmologist before he can return to the Octagon, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.

Cormier suffered a torn cornea after being poked in his left eye during the third round of Saturday's bout with Stipe Miocic at UFC 252, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Cormier said after the fight that he lost all vision in his left eye following the accidental poke from Miocic. For now, doctors have told Cormier that he won't need surgery, but they'll continue to monitor the healing process before completely ruling it out. The 41-year-old currently has no timetable for a return, but that may be irrelevant now, as Cormier suggested he may retire during his post-fight interview.

Falls to Stipe, retirement likely
Cormier came up short in his quest to regain the UFC Heavyweight Championship, falling to Stipe Miocic via unanimous decision (46-49, 46-49, 47-48) at UFC 252 on Saturday in Las Vegas. He announced his likely retirement following the fight.
ANALYSIS
DC was surprisingly content with engaging Stipe in a kickboxing match. While there were a few moments in which the two men were engaged in the clinch along the fence, for the most part this fight was spent standing and striking at distance. Cormier did pretty well for the better part of the first two rounds before Stipe dropped him with a looping right late in the second frame. DC was in all sorts of trouble and was saved by the bell. It was the biggest moment of the fight. He was clearly compromised for the better portion of Round 3 but eventually appeared to recover. Cormier was also the victim of an accidental eye poke late in the third frame that referee Marc Goddard -- who is probably the best official in the sport today -- missed. DC's eye was a wreck the rest of the fight, but he somehow managed to battle through it. He told Joe Rogan in his post-fight interview that he couldn't see a single thing out of his left eye. To his credit, as always, DC handled it with class and Goddard admitted his mistake to Cormier after seeing a replay. Cormier managed to remain competitive over the course of the final two rounds despite the fact he was essentially fighting with one eye, but Miocic's cardio appeared to be just a tad better and that, combined with the eye injury, likely made the ultimate difference in the later stages of the fight. Rogan asked Cormier in the earlier mentioned interview if this was it for him. While it wasn't the most forceful retirement announcement we have ever heard, DC said he's only interested in fighting for titles and he doesn't see that in his future. Stranger things have happened, but DC has a million things going for him outside of the Octagon. It wouldn't be a surprise if he truly does hang them up. DC's corner repeatedly stated in between rounds that Cormier didn't have his hands up high enough in the striking exchanges between the two men, but it was Stipe's body shots that eventually turned the tide of the fight. DC is going to be bitterly disappointed by the loss, but the truth of the matter is that he fought pretty darn well prior to the finish. Cormier has stated on multiple occasions that he plans on retiring in the not-too-distant future, and it makes you wonder if a setback like this one will accelerate that time line or slow it down. For the record, he stated in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan that he is undecided about continuing his career at this time and wants to talk to his wife before making any decisions.
