Loses in return from long layoff

November 5, 2022
Lopez lost to Mario Bautista via submission (triangle choke) at 4:54 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Returning from a three-plus-year-absence, Lopez missed weight by two and a half pounds Friday morning and wasn't the least bit competitive against Bautista. He served as a punching bag for his opponent in the early going before getting taken to the mat and eventually choked out with just seconds to go in Round 1. Lopez had won two of three UFC bouts entering the evening, although his last win with the company came in July 2019. Lopez's roster spot is probably secure, but the past 36 hours could not have gone any worse for the 28-year-old California native.
Heavy on the scale

November 4, 2022
Lopez weighed in at 138.5 pounds ahead of Saturday's fight against Mario Bautista, two and a half pounds over the bantamweight limit, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lopez will not attempt to cut any further weight, so he'll forfeit 20 percent of his purse to Bautista regardless of the outcome, John Morgan of The Underground reports. Friday was a popular day for weight misses, with five UFC fighters coming in heavy on their first attempts on the scale ahead of the Nov. 5 event.
Set to fight Nov. 5

Lopez will take on Mario Bautista at the UFC event on Nov. 5, Team Iridium Sports Agency reports.
ANALYSIS
Lopez holds a 2-1 record through his brief three fight stint with the UFC. His most recent outing was a few weeks ago when he defeated Vince Morales by unanimous decision. Bautista is 4-2 with the promotion and won his last bout in June.
Bounces back from first career loss

July 13, 2019
Lopez defeated Vince Morales via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sacramento.
ANALYSIS
It was another lackluster performance from the 25-year-old Lopez, and one in which he was fortunate to emerge victorious. The Team Alpha male product has struggled to damage his opposition with strikes in the early portion of his UFC career and Saturday was no different. Lopez has a great frame (5-foot-10) for the bantamweight division and he moves fairly well, but sooner or later you have to display some stopping power with your hands, and Lopez is struggling in that area. He could have very easily dropped this decision. A product of Dana White's Tuesday Night Contenders Series, Lopez has alternated wins and losses in his first three official bouts with the company.
Gets new opponent for Sacramento

June 24, 2019
Lopez will now fight Vince Morales at UFC Sacramento on July 13, MMAJunkie.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lopez had been set to square off against Martin Day, but Day was forced to withdraw due to knee surgery. Lopez, who owns a 1-1 record with the UFC, will wind up swapping one inexperienced fighter for another, as Morales has a 1-1 record as well. Lopez is a younger fighter that will enter with three-inch advantages in both height and reach. "Golden Boy" was choked out in the first round by Manny Bermudez in his most recent fight, following up a victory against Alberto Morales in which he landed 78 significant strikes. The two combatants have four combined UFC fights, and Lopez's loss to Bermudez is the only one that hasn't gone to the judges.
