The outcome of Newson's fight against Domingo Pilarte at UFC 247 has been overturned to a no contest by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Newson logged what was initially called as a 38-second knockout against Pilarte at UFC 247, and would have been his first UFC victory, but the result won't be counted on either fighter's record after he tested positive for marijuana. The 31-year-old is already serving a six-month medical suspension, and an additional fine or suspension could now be forthcoming.

Newson was given a six-month medical suspension by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation following his UFC 247 victory over Domingo Pilarte, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The commission does not disclose the specifics of any injuries, but Newson will have to spend at least six months on the sidelines unless cleared earlier by a physician. The 30-year-old will presumably look to get above the .500 mark in the UFC later in 2020.

Newson defeated Domingo Pilarte via TKO (punches) at 0:38 of Round 1 at UFC 247 on Saturday in Houston.
ANALYSIS
Easy work. Newson was swept on the judge's scorecards in his UFC debut last June, but he took that fight on short notice. He looked much better with a full training camp under his belt. Newson cracked Pilarte with a crushing right hand and followed it up with some more shots before referee Jacob Montalvo had determined he had finally seen enough. Newson has legitimate, underrated power and it was on full display on Saturday. He improves to 7-1 in his last eight fights.

Newson dropped his UFC debut on Saturday, falling to Ricardo Ramos via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night in Minneapolis.
ANALYSIS
In for an injured Sergio Pettis, Newson actually fought pretty well for a guy who got swept on the judge's scorecards. He displayed an excellent chin and didn't appear to be overwhelmed by the moment. While there might not be a ton here from an offensive standpoint, Newson may very well be the type of fighter who is able to secure a handful of victories based upon grit and determination. It's a lousy long-term profile, but Newson will almost certainly get another chance with the company.
