Controversial loss in UFC debut
MiddleweightUFC
July 13, 2019
Turman lost to Karl Roberson via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sacramento.
ANALYSIS
What seemed like a clear cut 29-28 victory for Turman in his UFC debut turned into another misadventure thanks to the California judges. The soon-to-be 23-year-old Brazilian entered with the reputation of being a weak striker and very strong submission specialist, and that's exactly how his first bout played out. Turman had his chances to end this fight on the mat and wasn't able to do so, but he still deserved to win. Turman's lack of power is going to make it very difficult for him to defeat anyone of note in the UFC, but he's young enough to potentially makes some changes to his game. The fact he had a very strong Round 3 on Saturday bodes for his future.
