Can't avoid Chael Sonnen's takedowns in the Bellator 180 main event
Silva lost to Chael Sonnen via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27) at Bellator 180 on Saturday in New York City
ANALYSIS
It looked like Silva was one or two strikes away from finishing the fight with punches in the first round. He had gotten up from a takedown and landed a strike that floored Sonnen. Unfortunately, that was one of the very few bright spots for Silva. He landed only 12 strikes in the fight per CompuStrike. The former Pride FC champion had not fought since defeating Brian Stann 2013. He will likely continue fighting with potential bouts coming in Bellator or Rizin.

Underdog in fight with Chael Sonnen
Silva (+125) is an underdog for his light heavyweight fight against Chael Sonnen at Bellator 180 on June 24 at Madison Square Garden.
ANALYSIS
Since getting ushered out of the UFC and suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission, Silva has taken his talents overseas to compete under the Rizin banner. His last fight in a major promotion was in March of 2013, when he defeated Brian Stann (KO-punches) in the second round. Silva may have some trouble stopping Sonnen's takedowns, but the striking force that won "The Axe Murderer" 25 KO/TKOs in his career could save him. It remains to be seen how much of that power is left at age 40.

To headline Bellator card against Chael Sonnen
Silva will face Chael Sonnen in a Bellator pay-per-view event at the Madison Square Garden in New York on June 24, Greg Beacham of the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Silva hasn't fought in a sanctioned, U.S.-based event since 2013, due largely to a suspension that was handed down by the Nevada Athletic Commission. During the time off, he has stayed sharp by fighting overseas. He's a year older than Sonnen and hasn't faced the same level of competition, at least of late, so it should be a relatively even-matched bout. It's also Bellator's second ever pay-per-view event in the history of the promotion.

To face Mirko Cro Cop under Rizin FF banner
Silva will face the 42-year-old Mirko Cro Cop at the Rizin FF 2016 World Grand Prix quarterfinals set to take place on Dec. 29, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Silva hasn't been in a sanctioned fight since March of 2013, when he KO'd Brian Stann in an event televised on Fuel TV. He recently signed a deal with Bellator MMA, but due to a suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission, he'll be unable to fight in the U.S. until mid-2017. Instead, he'll head overseas to fight under a new banner in Saitama, Japan.

Wanderlei Silva: Inks surprise deal with Bellator
Silva (suspension) has signed a multifight deal with Bellator MMA, ESPN's Brett Okamoto reports.
ANALYSIS
Silva won't be able to fight in the state of Nevada until at least May of 2017 due to a three-year suspension that was handed to him in mid-February. That being said, "The Ax Murderer" could technically fight in another state, although Bellator representatives have yet to comment on any details related to a potential debut for Silva. At 39 years old, Silva's best days of fighting are likely behind him, especially considering he hasn't been in a competitive MMA fight since March of 2013. The name recognition factor seems to be the most likely reason why Bellator would sign him at this point in his career.
