To take on Silva at UFC 237
February 20, 2019
Cannonier has been booked to fight Anderson Silva in a middleweight bout at UFC 237 on May 11 in Brazil, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
Cannonier is coming off a huge upset victory over David Branch via TKO (punches) at UFC 230 in New York City. The victory ended what had been a two-fight losing streak for Cannonier and boosted his overall UFC record back to .500 (4-4). He will certainly have his work cut out of him again come May against the 43-year-old Silva, who will be fighting in his home country.

Pulls monumental upset over David Branch at UFC 230
November 3, 2018
Cannonier defeated David Branch via TKO (punches) at 0:29 of Round 2 at UFC 230 on Saturday in New York City.
Having competed at both heavyweight and light heavyweight in the early portion of his UFC career, Cannonier's career-defining victory comes at 185 pounds. Taking the Branch fight on late notice, Cannonier survived Round 1 before opening up on Branch on the feet in Round 2. "The Killa Gorilla" appeared to be in terrific shape and he made the 186-pound middleweight limit without issue. As great as he looked on Saturday, people will think this strong effort from Cannonier was nothing more than a fluke. It's a reasonable question given the fact Cannonier would have been a release candidate had he lost to Branch. Only time will tell if Cannonier is a legitimate contender or not.
Added to UFC 230
October 20, 2018
Cannonier will take on David Branch at UFC 230 on Nov. 3 in New York, MMAFighting.com reports.
Cannonier's late addition is a result of a chain reaction caused by Luke Rockhold pulling out of the co-main event due to injury. Ronaldo Souza will take his place against Chris Weidman, with Cannonier taking Souza's original spot against Branch. Cannonier has a 10-4 record as a professional but is just 3-4 since joining the UFC and has lost his last two matching, most recently being defeated in a first-round TKO by Dominick Reyes at UFC Fight Night 129 in May. His opponent, Branch, has a 22-4 professional record and has lost just once since 2012.
Falls victim to first-round knockout at UFC Chile
May 19, 2018
Cannonier lost to Dominick Reyes via TKO (punches) at 2:55 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Santiago, Chile.
Cannonier has looked solid since moving down from heavyweight. However, he was up against an up-and-coming fighter here. Reyes had the cleaner and more powerful striking. Cannonier tried to come in with power strikes, but it only got him into trouble. Reyes clipped Cannonier with a punch. He stayed on him until he dropped him with an uppercut and the fight was over. Cannonier falls to 3-4 in the UFC.
Suffers unanimous decision loss at Winnipeg
December 17, 2017
Cannonier lost to Jan Blachowicz via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) on Saturday in Winnipeg.
Cannonier took some shots throughout this fight but was able to counter and land some leg kicks. A big shot dropped "The Killa Gorilla" in the second round, but he was able to scramble and regain his feet. Round 3 was his best effort with 14 significant strikes landed, but he wasn't able to stop Jan's takedowns. Cannonier lost out on the judges' card, which dropped his record to 10-3 overall.
Gets new opponent for UFC Winnipeg
November 7, 2017
Cannonier will go up against Jan Blachowicz in a light heavyweight fight at UFC Winnipeg on Dec. 16, Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com reports.
Cannonier was originally in line to face Rogerio Nogueria up until Nogueria was flagged by the USADA for an anti-doping violation. Fortunately for Cannonier, they were able to add Blachowicz as a last-minute addition to the card in Canada with just over a month until the event. Blachowicz was recently cleared of a left foot injury he likely suffered during his most recent victory against Devin Clark at UFC Gdansk.
