Set to take on Walt Harris
May 17, 2019
Oleinik (ribs) will take on Walt Harris in a heavyweight bout at UFC San Antonio on July 20.
This will be the second time Oleinik has been scheduled to take on Harris this year. The first fight fell through after Oleinik was booked for an earlier outing at UFC Saint Petersburg, but the Russian suffered a fractured left rib in the loss to Alistair Overeem via TKO. He was handed a six-month medical suspension back in April as a result, but it looks like Oleinik is going to be cleared by a doctor before the fight in July.

Fractures rib in loss to Overeem
April 24, 2019
Oleinik (57-12-1) was handed a six-month medical suspension after sustaining a fractured left rib in his first-round TKO loss to Alistair Overeem (45-17-0) last weekend at UFC Saint Petersburg, John Morgan and Steven Marrocco of report.
The suspension leaves Oleinik unable to re-enter the Octagon until late December, unless he gains clearance from an orthopedic doctor beforehand. "The Boa Constrictor" saw a two-fight win streak come to an end with the loss to Overeem.
Looks for his signature choke
April 20, 2019
Oleinik lost to Alistair Overeem via TKO (knees and punches) at 4:45 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Saint Petersburg.
Oleinik went for it from the start. He closed the distance and pulled guard off the bat. He then tried to throw power strikes. He had some trouble and appeared to catch Overeem at one point. However, Overeem was simply waiting for his opportunity to land hard knees. Towards the end of the round, he came through with a series of hard clinch knees. Oleinik fell to the ground and continued to eat punishment on the floor. The loss stops a two fight winning streak.
Will fight in Russia on short notice
April 3, 2019
Oleinik (57-11-1) agreed Wednesday to step in on short notice as a replacement for Alexander Volkov (undisclosed) in his heavyweight fight against Alistair Overeem (44-17-0, 1NC) at UFC Saint Petersburg on April 20, Ariel Helwani of reports.
Oleinik had initially been slated to make his next fight against Walt Harris on May 4 in Ottawa, but the UFC will now have to fight a new opponent for Harris after moving the Oleinik up a couple weeks in the schedule. The 41-year-old Oleinik most recently entered the Octagon in September, claiming a submission victory over Mark Hunt in Moscow to bring his winning streak to two.
Booked for UFC Ottawa
March 5, 2019
Oleinik has been booked to fight Walt Harris at UFC Fight Night Ottawa on May 4, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
Oleinik has won two fights in a row and four of his last five dating back to early 2017. He's coming off a victory over Mark Hunt via submission in Round 1 of UFC Moscow, as the 41-year-old continues to battle father time and boasts an 8-2 record since joining the UFC. His opponent, Harris, doesn't boast the experience of Oleinik with 12-7 overall record, but he is coming off two straight victories of his own in the last year.
Defeats Mark Hunt via rear-naked choke in Round 1 in Moscow
September 15, 2018
Oleinik defeated Mark Hunt via submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:26 of Round 1 at UFC Moscow on Saturday.
It was almost certain that this fight would end with a Mark Hunt KO or an Aleksei Oleinik submission. It almost ended with a KO when Hunt landed a huge right hand early in the fight. He also landed multiple leg kicks that visibly affected Oleinik's ability to move. "The Boa Constrictor" was able to land a right hand that stunned Hunt and then he was able to secure a takedown. The single takedown was all that was needed as Oleinik easily took Hunt's back and sunk in a rear-naked choke which made Hunt quickly tap.
