Artem Lobov
The Russian Hammer
Joins fighting startup league
February 13, 2019
Lopez came to terms Wednesday with Bare Knuckle FC on a three-fight, six-figure contract, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
After receiving his release from the UFC a little over two weeks ago, Lobov didn't take long to find work. At least in the short term, he'll likely become one of the faces of Bare Knuckle FC, a fighting startup league that will still leave the door open for him to sign with another MMA promotion. Lobov is scheduled to make his Bare Knuckle debut April 20 versus another former UFC fighter in Jason Knight.

Granted release from UFC
January 29, 2019
Lobov was granted his release by the UFC on Tuesday, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
The release comes at Lobov's request despite "The Russian Hammer" having three fights left on his contract. The 32-year-old had been slipping, losing three straight fights and five of his seven since joining the UFC. It's often stated that Lobov is better known for being the teammate and training partner of Conor McGregor, as opposed to anything he's accomplished in the cage. He'll now look to find a deal with another promotion, and has expressed interest in boxing and kickboxing, in addition to MMA.
Fails to keep up with Michael Johnson at UFC Moncton
October 27, 2018
Lobov lost to Michael Johnson via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Lobov came out with his trademark style. He kept his hands down and tried to walk his opponent down. However, Johnson was too skilled to fall into the trap. He scored continuously with his jabs and straights. Lobov occasionally landed strikes, but he was never able to land his power shots clean. In order to win this fight, he would likely need to stop Johnson, and he never came close. With the loss, Lobov falls to 14-15-1 as a professional.
Accepts fight despite opponent missing weight
October 26, 2018
Lobov will go forward with his fight against Michael Johnson Saturday despite Johnson missing weight by one pound, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
Johnson was a late fill-in for Zubaira Tukhugov, only being confirmed as Lobov's opponent on Oct. 17. Lobov appears to be understanding of Johnson's situation, agreeing to return the 20-percent purse penalty applied to Johnson for missing weight out of appreciation for his opponent's willingness to fight on short notice.
Finds replacement opponent for Moncton co-main event
October 17, 2018
Lobov will now take on Michael Johnson in a lightweight battle at UFC Moncton on Oct. 27.
Lobov was originally supposed to fight Zubaira Tukhugov in the co-main event, but due to Tukhogov's role in the post-UFC 229 melee (and admitting it on social media), he was ultimately pulled from the card. A week later, it was reported that getting Johnson as a replacement was "in the works," and the fight is now official with this announcement. It's arguably a tougher matchup for Lobov, who now draws a more prolific striker with an eight-inch reach advantage. Johnson has the edge in both striking volume and striking differential, as well as a much better takedown defense if that ends up playing a role in the fight. Since this fight was speculated for some time, there are already betting odds out, and Lobov sits as roughly a (+350) underdog as of Wednesday.
Fight with Tukhugov called off
October 11, 2018
Lobov was scheduled to face Nurmagomedov's teammate Zubaira Tukhugov at the end of the month in a UFC bout, but both sides confirmed to Ariel Helwani of ESPN that the fight is off.
Tukhugov admitted following UFC 229 that he took part in the post-fight brawl, and it seems like the sides opted to cancel the fight until things are sorted out by the UFC. Lobov is still expected to fight at UFC Moncton, though an opponent has yet to be found. Given how close the event is, things should clear up relatively soon.
