Easily secures fifth straight win

Rountree defeated Anthony Smith via TKO (punches) at 0:56 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Originally scheduled to face Azamat Murzakanov here, Rountree eagerly accepted a fight with Smith after Murzakanov was forced to withdraw due to pneumonia, and he responded with one of the biggest wins of his career. Truth be told, this was an easy win for Khalil. He was blessed with a massive power edge over Smith, and although Anthony was the one pushing forward the entire fight, Rountree was the one that was landing. Nothing Smith threw seemed to impact Khalil in any way, and it felt like only a matter of time until Rountree closed the show. The 33-year-old was wildly inconsistent early in his UFC run, but has found the range of late, winning five in a row dating back to September 2021. The latest of those victories would go on to earn him one of four $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses awarded on the evening.

Rountree, who was originally scheduled to fight Azamat Murzakanov at UFC Austin on Dec. 2, will now face Anthony Smith at UFC 233 on Dec. 9 in Las Vegas according to Dana White.
ANALYSIS
Murzakanov came down with pneumonia and is no longer able to compete, so credit to Smith for stepping up on short notice. Rountree will have plenty of momentum, as he's won four straight fights, three of which were by knockout.

Runs winning streak to four

Rountree defeated Chris Daukaus via TKO (punches) at 2:40 of Round 1 at UFC on ESPN 51 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Rountree's all-around skill set is questionable, as is his cardio, but the power is legitimate, as Daukaus found out first hand here. An opponent with durability issues that is unable to get his head off the center line, such as Daukaus, is a dream matchup for Rountree. All it took one was left hand right up the gut to end this fight in an instant -- that shot would go on to earn him a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus as well. The competition level has been pretty lousy (Daukaus, Dustin Jacoby, Karl Roberson, Modestas Bukauskas), but Rountree has won four straight on the heels of a 1-3 stretch in his prior four appearances.

Rountree will no longer fight Chris Daukaus at UFC 289 on June 10 after Daukaus was forced to pull out of the fight, MMAFighting.com reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear why Daukaus was forced to withdraw from the bout, but Rountree will need to find another opponent as soon as possible if he still wants to compete at UFC 289. Rountree is coming off three straight UFC victories.
