FPL Bargain Bin: Gameweek 16 Value Plays

This article is part of our FPL Bargain Bin series.

Welcome back for Gameweek 16, that is if you are healthy. We are in the middle of flu season and approaching the peak time of the year for the virus. Fevers and fatigue could cause you to miss a gameweek or two. If that is the case, you can join the long list of players that will be sitting on the sideline for the upcoming weekend:

Injured
Sergio Aguero (knee), Daniel Sturridge (thigh), Victor Moses (thigh), Mesut Ozil (knee), Laurent Koscielny (calf), Luke Shaw (ankle), Thibaut Courtois (muscle injury)

Suspended
Cesc Fabregas, Calum Chambers, Lukasz Fabianski

Between the injured and suspended players, it may be easier to select a roster from guys that will not be playing rather than those that will. That would be the glass-half-empty way to look at things. However, we here at the Bargain Bin are the type to look at situations glass-half-full, and see a great opportunity with all these players missing.

Consider this a public service announcement to make sure your guys are all playing when rosters are announced, check to make sure your players are not dealing with any limiting injuries, and look to the flip side of these circumstances to take advantage with some potential bargains. For those bargains this week, here are the players featured in Gameweek 16's Bargain Bin.

Goalkeeper

Fraser Forster ($4,600 DraftKings, $7.4M MondoGoal) at Burnley (Saturday)

I can only assume Forster is not one of the top-three priced goalkeepers this week based on recent form. Southampton has allowed an average of two goals over their last three games, but those have come against Manchester City, Arsenal, and Manchester United. Burnley is not in the same category as those teams. In fact, this time next year, Burnley may very well not even be in the same league. No team has scored fewer than Burnley's six home goals this season. Don't let Southampton's recent numbers deter you from using one of this week's best options for clean sheet at a discounted price.

Note:Gerhard Tremmel ($3,700 DK, $5.0M MG) will likely get the start in place of the suspended Fabianski against a Tottenham team that has struggled in matches following Europa League play this season.

Defender

Jose Fonte ($3,500 DraftKings, $8.1M MondoGoal) at Burnley

See Forster above. This one goes without the need of any information other than what was stated earlier.

Notes:Phil Jagielka is only $3,600 in DraftKings and Seamus Coleman is $8.8M in MondoGoal with a home match against a Queens Park Rangers squad allergic to away goals this season.

Midfielders

Jesus Navas ($5,800 DraftKings, $8.6M MondoGoal) at Leicester City

Navas is tied for the team lead with four assists and has created the most chances on a Manchester City squad that has scored 10 goals over the last three matches. It is likely Man City will continue their outstanding pace against a Leicester City team that has allowed the third-most goals in home matches and second most overall. In addition to creating chances for his teammates, Navas has done well to get opportunities for himself. Despite not scoring a goal this season, Navas has the third-most shot attempts on the team since being inserted into the starting XI on a regular basis, and the team leader in that category (Sergio Aguero) is out with an injury. At his pace, Navas will certainly find the back of the net sooner rather than later, and Saturday against Leicester City will provide a great opportunity.

Notes: Only one player has attempted more than Yannick Bolasie's ($5,700 DraftKings, $6.5M MondoGoal) 18 shots over the last four gameweeks, and a home match against Stoke City could provide him the chance for a breakthrough.

Forwards

Bojan ($5,900 DraftKings, $9.7M MondoGoal) at Crystal Palace

Speaking of that Crystal Palace v. Stoke City matchup, it is not like the Crystal Palace defense has been lights out this season. Before last weekend's surprise shutout of Spurs, the Eagles had managed to keep just two clean sheets. Both of those came against relegation candidates Burnley and Leicester City. The Crystal Palace defense is not the strength it was last season, and Stoke City will be looking to take advantage. Bojan leads Stoke City in shot attempts and is second in assisted shots behind the injured Victor Moses. Since coming back to the starting XI, Bojan has come on strong with two goals and one assist during the last five league matches. He'll look to grow those numbers in a great matchup against Stoke City.

Notes:Kevin Mirallas is listed as a forward in DraftKings and will cost just $6,800 in a great matchup against Queens Park Rangers. After an assist last week and a goal the week before, Christian Benteke appears to be rounding into form and is priced too low in all formats.
