Injury News Updates:

English Premier League (EPL)

Major League Soccer (MLS)

Dom Dwyer    F    Orlando City SC
Dwyer was forced to withdraw from the United States men's national team camp because of a right hamstring injury.

Fantasy Analysis

The severity of Dwyer's injury is unclear, though there didn't appear to be any indication that it could force him to miss the beginning of the MLS season.
A.J. DeLaGarza    D    Houston Dynamo
DeLaGarza (knee) re-signed with the Dynamo on Tuesday.

Fantasy Analysis

DeLaGarza joined the club last January and went on to make 30 of 34 starts before suffering a torn ACL that required surgery on Nov. 1. He is expected to need six-to-nine months to recover, which could allow him to get back on the pitch by midseason.
Sacha Kljestan    M    Orlando City SC
Kljestan was traded to Orlando City on Wednesday for Carlos Rivas and Tommy Redding. The Red Bulls will also receive $150,000 in targeted allocation money, while Orlando City will receive a percentage of any future transfer fees for Rivas and Redding.

Fantasy Analysis

Kljestan was linked to a number of different clubs this season, including expansion side LAFC, but he ends up in Orlando as a strong placement for the retired Kaka.
Tomas Martinez    M    Houston Dynamo
Martinez took three shots, putting two on goal in Thursday's 3-0 loss at Seattle. He was sent off in the 66th minute for violent conduct.

Fantasy Analysis

With Houston already heading for a season-ending loss, Martinez lost his cool and lashed out at Seattle's Jordy Delem. Martinez showed well in limited minutes during his first season in Major League Soccer, but he'll miss the first game of the 2018 regular season.
Romell Quioto    F    Houston Dynamo
Quioto has been ruled out for Thursday's playoff game against the Sounders because of an illness, according to Corey Roepken of the Houston Chronicle.

Fantasy Analysis

Quioto's absence is a massive blow to the Dynamo's attack, especially with Alberth Elis suspended. Mauro Manotas will lead the line in their absences, with Alex and Thomas Martinez joining him in the attack.
David Accam    F/M    Chicago Fire
Accam underwent minor surgeries and is expected to be ready for training by the end of the year, reports Gullermo Rivera of ChicagoNow.

Fantasy Analysis

At times, Accam was one of the most electric players in the league this past season, but he failed to close on a good note. He finished with 14 goals and eight assists, but didn't find the score sheet in the last seven matches of the season.
Ben Zemanski    M    Portland Timbers
Zemanski is unavailable for Sunday's playoff game against the Dynamo because of a meniscus injury, according to Jamie Goldberg of The Oregonian.

Fantasy Analysis

Zemanski wasn't a consistent starter this season, but with a multitude of injuries along the Timbers' back line, he may have warranted a start Sunday. The severity of the injury is unclear, so his return date is cloudy at the moment.
Roy Miller    D    Portland Timbers
Miller is out indefinitely after suffering a rupturing his Achilles in training Saturday, according to Jamie Goldberg of The Oregonian.

Fantasy Analysis

Miller's absence is a huge blow to the Timbers' defense as Larrys Mabiala is out with a hip injury. Lawrence Olum will start at center-back Sunday against Houston, while Miller could miss a decent portion of the 2018 season because of his injury.
Tyler Deric    G
Deric has been suspended indefinitely by Major League Soccer after he was arrested for an alleged domestic incident, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Joe Willis will take over in net for Deric as the Dynamo face Portland in the playoffs Sunday.
Larrys Mabiala    D    Portland Timbers
Mabiala suffered a hip injury during the first half of Monday's playoff match against Houston, The Oregonian reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Mbaiala's absence would be a really tough hit to the Timbers' defense for the second leg Sunday, especially with a number of midfielders also falling to the injury bug.
Diego Chara    M    Portland Timbers
Chara broke the fifth metatarsal in his foot during Monday's playoff game against the Dynamo, The Oregonian reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Chara's injury is a major hit to the Timbers' midfield, especially with David Guzman already out with a knee injury. There is a chance Guzman could return for the second leg Sunday, but it appears that Chara's season is likely over.
Osvaldo Alonso    M    Seattle Sounders FC
Alonso (quad) played 16 minutes off the bench during Sunday's playoff game against the Whitecaps, completing 14 passes and winning one tackle.

Fantasy Analysis

Alonso was questionable for the match due to the injury, but a return Sunday could allow him to get back in the starting XI for the second leg Thursday.
Connor Maloney    D    Columbus Crew
Maloney received surgery on his knee this week and will miss the playoffs, according to team correspondent Patrick Murphy.

Fantasy Analysis

This isn't major news as Maloney has appeared in just two matches this season. It wasn't a major injury so he'll be back for the 2018 campaign.
Sal Zizzo    M/D    New York Red Bulls
Zizzo (knock) is not in the 18-man squad to face the Fire on Wednesday.

Fantasy Analysis

Zizzo suffered his injury this past Sunday, and given the short turnaround between matches, it's unsurprising he failed to make the 18.
Clement Diop    G    Montreal Impact
Diop was sent off in the 71st minute of Sunday's 5-1 loss to FC Dallas.

Fantasy Analysis

Already down three goals, Diop came out and fouled the onrushing Kellyn Acosta as he latched onto a poor back pass. His side went on to lose, cementing their position in last place, and Diop will miss the start of the 2018 campaign to boot.
Michael Barrios    M    FC Dallas
Barrios scored a goal on three shot attempts to go along with three crosses and two tackles during Sunday's 5-1 win over the Galaxy.

Fantasy Analysis

Barrios was a thorn in the side of the visiting defense all afternoon and scored his third goal of the season when he finished Mauro Diaz's feed in the 68th minute. Though he couldn't quite match his nine goals from last season, Barrios blew past his previous career high with 12 assists. He will look to continue his productive ways in 2018.
Axel Sjoberg    D    Colorado Rapids
Sjoberg picked up a red card with a half hour to play Sunday against Colorado.

Fantasy Analysis

Sjoberg's red card was an appropriate symbol of Colorado's season as their defense failed to repeat last season's success and the team struggled mightily. The future for Colorado is unclear as a season like this will surely result in a large roster rehaul.
Luciano Acosta    M    D.C. United
Acosta assisted on the opening goal in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the New York Red Bulls. He was also shown a red card in the 70th minute for violent conduct.

Fantasy Analysis

It was a fitting finish to a frustrating season for both Acosta and D.C. United. The young Argentine showed flashes of brilliance on occasion, but was inconsistent throughout the majority of the 2017 season. He finishes the season with five goals and five assists, and the red card means he'll miss the 2018 season opener.
Fanendo Adi    F    Portland Timbers
Adi (hamstring) is not in the match day squad for Sunday's match with Vancouver.

Fantasy Analysis

Adi's absence comes as no surprise to fantasy owners as he's been sidelined since early August.
Marco Donadel    M    Montreal Impact
Donadel will miss the regular-season finale due to undisclosed reasons, reports Joey Alfieri of TSN690.

Fantasy Analysis

In a meaningless match, it's not too surprising that Donadel misses out as he's dealt with a nagging knee injury to close the season. He finished with two goals and one assist in 19 appearances for Montreal.
Kyle Fisher    D    Montreal Impact
Fisher (shin) will miss the season finale against New England, reports Joey Alfieri of TSN690.

Fantasy Analysis

Fisher had a nice run of starts in the middle of the season, but has rarely featured since July. He finished with 15 starts and 20 appearances to go with one goal and three clean sheets.
Chris Duvall    D    Montreal Impact
Duvall will miss the season finale against New England due to an ankle injury, reports Joey Alfieri of TSN690.

Fantasy Analysis

Duvall picked up the injury a couple weeks ago and it will cost him the last few matches of the season. He had a decent campaign, making 25 starts, scoring once and assisting twice to go with five clean sheets.
Maxime Chanot    D    New York City FC
Chanot will miss yet another match due to his groin injury, according to head coach Patrick Vieira.

Fantasy Analysis

It's been an injury-plagued season for Chanot as he hasn't appeared since July. At this point, it seems unlikely he'll be ready for the postseason, although his status remains unclear in that aspect.
Keegan Rosenberry    D    Philadelphia Union
Rosenberry has been suspended and will miss the last match of the season for Philly, reports Jonathan Tannenwald of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Fantasy Analysis

It's been a rough season for Rosenberry and ends on a bad note after a untimely tweet that the organization didn't appreciate. Rosenberry finished the 2017 season with 11 starts and 14 appearances, securing two clean sheets and one assist.
Tony Beltran    D    Real Salt Lake
Beltran will miss Sunday's match against SKC due to the knee injury suffered last weekend, reports Maddie Lee of the Salt Lake Tribune.

Fantasy Analysis

This isn't too surprising for Beltran and he may end up missing the playoffs if RSL make it there. Demar Phillips will likely get the start in Beltran's place.
Cristian Higuita    M    Orlando City SC
Higuita will likely miss the rest of the season due to his calf injury, reports Alicia Rose DelGallo of the Orlando Sentinel.

Fantasy Analysis

With only two matches left, there's little reason for Higuita to play through injury. He started 18 matches this season, appearing in 26, with zero goals scored and two assists as mostly a defensive midfielder.
Boniek Garcia    M    Houston Dynamo
Garcia remains out with a knee injury and was not able to play for Costa Rica over the international break, according to Diez.

Fantasy Analysis

Garcia picked up the injury a couple weeks ago and hasn't appeared since. All signs point to him missing the SKC match on Wednesday unless he returns to training early in the week.
Thomas De Villardi    M    Minnesota United
De Villardi returned to full training this week from an Achilles rupture, but had to be carried off the pitch again with another leg injury and will likely miss the remainder of the season, reports the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Fantasy Analysis

De Villardi has yet to play this season due to injury so this is unfortunate news for him as he continues to get injured in training.
Sam Cronin    M    Minnesota United
Cronin appeared at practice this week and is still hopeful to return this season from a concussion, but will remain out for Saturday's match against Kansas City, reports the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Fantasy Analysis

The Loons want to get Cronin back, but with only three matches left this season, the opportunities for that to happen are waning. With zero goals and one assist, he has little fantasy impact for Minnesota.
Jefferson Savarino    F/M    Real Salt Lake
Savarino left the last match early and according to the Venezuela national team, is dealing with an ankle injury and possible knee ligament damage.

Fantasy Analysis

This clearly isn't good news for Savarino, but the injury could cost him the rest of the season and more. He's been a great piece for RSL up front and this would definitely hurt their attack.
Micheal Azira    M    Colorado Rapids
Azira left the Montreal match with an ankle injury and will likely miss the Dallas fixture on Saturday.

Fantasy Analysis

Azira was replaced by Mohammed Saied in the Montreal match, but he's been a regular starter. Colorado has been hard to trust this season, but a home match against Dallas is a decent spot for them
