Injury News Updates:

English Premier League (EPL)

Major League Soccer (MLS)

Alphonso Davies    M    Vancouver Whitecaps FC
Davies is not in the 18-man squad for Saturday's match with Seattle.

Fantasy Analysis

Davies has been the subject of transfer rumors as of late due to the 17-year-olds rise as one of Vancouver's star players. He's likely to miss time until his transfer situation has been figured out.
Ezequiel Barco    F/M    Atlanta United
Barco is not in the 18-man squad for Saturday's match with D.C. United.

Fantasy Analysis

Barco misses out for an undisclosed reason as he was expected to play heading into the match. Andrew Carleton replaces Barco on the left and will make his first MLS start.
Justin Meram    M    Orlando City SC
Meram (undisclosed) will miss Saturday's match with Columbus, Jordan Culver of Pro Soccer USA reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Meram will miss his third straight match as he continues to work through off-the-field issues. A return to training will be the best indicator that he could feature in a match, though he's out for the time being. His next chance to feature will come Thursday against New York City FC.
Marcelo Silva    D    Real Salt Lake
Silva is suspended for Saturday's match against Colorado due to card accumulation.

Fantasy Analysis

Silva is unfortunate to miss a great chance for a clean sheet at home against the Rapids. Outside of three clean sheets this season, he hasn't provided much in fantasy in his 13 starts. With David Horst injured, his replacement on the back line is unknown, although it could end up being Nick Besler.
Diego Chara    M    Portland Timbers
Chara is suspended for Saturday's match against Montreal due to yellow card accumulation.

Fantasy Analysis

Chara's been good for defensive stats this season and already has eight yellow cards in 14 starts. Against the Impact, Andres Flores will likely return to the starting XI with Lawrence Olum in a central role.
Perry Kitchen    M    Los Angeles Galaxy
Kitchen is suspended for Saturday's match against Philadelphia due to yellow card accumulation.

Fantasy Analysis

Kitchen has started in all 19 matches this season, making his absence felt in central midfield. Either way, whoever replaces him will have little fantasy value. Kitchen has 11 shots and three chances created from a defensive mid position.
Dominique Badji    F    Colorado Rapids
Badji will miss Saturday's match against Real Salt Lake as he's in the process of finalizing his green card, according to the team.

Fantasy Analysis

Badji has been Colorado's best scorer this season with seven goals and his absence won't help much, especially on the road. Yannick Boli could be set for another start, his seventh of the season.
David Villa    F    New York City FC
Villa (knee) returned to training on Thursday.

Fantasy Analysis

Villa had been out for two weeks with a semi-serious knee injury. Luckily for the team, Jesus Medina and Maxi Moralez lead the team to three straight wins in the last week. Despite their good form, Villa figures to take his spot back from Ishmael Tajouri-Shradi in the starting lineup July 26 against Orlando City.
Yoshimar Yotun    M/D    Orlando City SC
Yotun will be reassessed ahead of Saturday's match with Columbus after missing the US Open Cup match against Philadelphia on Wednesday with an illness, according to manager James O'Connor in an interview with Jordan Culver of prosoccerusa.com.

Fantasy Analysis

Yotun plays an important creative role for the Lions, but hasn't logged an assist in his last six league matches. If he can't play, Will Johnson and Uri Rosell are likely to feature in defensive midfield.
Cristian Higuita    M    Orlando City SC
Higuita is still hindered by an adductor injury and not quite ready to return, according to Jordan Culver of prosoccerusa.com via manager James O'Connor.

Fantasy Analysis

Higuita has three goals this season from his position in defensive midfield, but has been out for the last month of competition. Uri Rosell is the current replacement for Higuita.
Anibal Godoy    M    San Jose Earthquakes
Godoy left Saturday's match against Montreal after 41 minutes with an undisclosed injury. He also picked up his fifth yellow card and will be suspended for the next match against Seattle.

Fantasy Analysis

Godoy was withdrawn after 41 minutes and proceeded to walk straight into the locker room, suggesting that he wasn't happy with his manager's decision. The 'Quakes are in the midst of a terrible run of form, and Godoy's absence is unlikely to be too influential to their success or fantasy.
Fatai Alashe    M    San Jose Earthquakes
Alashe (groin) played just four minutes before getting subbed off against Montreal on Saturday.

Fantasy Analysis

Alashe was a sub himself for Anibal Godoy at the end of the first half before getting removed in a very public spat with manager Mikael Stahhre. With his team in turmoil, Alashe might miss up to two weeks with the injury.
Ike Opara    D    Sporting Kansas City
Opara (hamstring) didn't play Saturday against New York Red Bulls.

Fantasy Analysis

Opara suffered the injury July 8 against Toronto and his inability to practice at full speed lead to his exclusion from the match. Emiliano Amor was his replacement Saturday and should continue to be until Opara returns.
Paxton Pomykal    M    FC Dallas
Pomykal was called up to the United States U-20 national team camp that runs until July 22. As a result, he will likely miss the July 21 match against Houston.

Fantasy Analysis

Pomykal has four appearances (one start) this season and is unlikely to make a big fantasy impact if absent.
Liam Ridgewell    D    Portland Timbers
Ridgewell didn't travel to the LAFC match on Sunday with a "left lower leg knock", according to Jamie Goldberg of The Oregonian.

Fantasy Analysis

Ridgewell hasn't played since the beginning of May but will return to the squad soon. Lawrence Olum kept the clean sheet Sunday and seems to be the current replacement at center-back.
Giles Barnes    F/M    Colorado Rapids
Barnes took two shots before exiting the match in the 52nd minutes with an apparent ankle injury.

Fantasy Analysis

Barnes was immediately inserted into the starting lineup just one day after signing with the team. After showing flashes of his attacking prowess, he hobbled off with what looked like an ankle injury. We'll know in the coming days if he's forced to miss time with the injury, but it's clear that when he's healthy he's going to be given an opportunity in the attack.
Lee Nguyen    M    Los Angeles Football Club
Nguyen was sent off in the 84th minute of Sunday's goalless draw with the Timbers.

Fantasy Analysis

Nguyen received a straight red card when his lunging challenge caught an opposing player just below the knee. The call appeared to be briefly reviewed by the referee, who then decided to stick with his initial decision. Nguyen will be suspended for next week's fixture with Minnesota.
Ashley Cole    D    Los Angeles Galaxy
Cole grabbed an assist to go with five tackles and four blocks in Saturday's 3-2 win against New England, but was also sent off with a straight red.

Fantasy Analysis

Cole assisted for the second straight match, pushing that number to six for the season, which is a great number for a defender. The Galaxy played with a back three in this match and that pushed Cole a little more forward, so his position should be monitored in future matches.
Jordan McCrary    D    Seattle Sounders FC
McCrary was sent off for a second yellow card foul in the 63rd minute of Sunday's match with Atlanta United.

Fantasy Analysis

McCrary committed a second rash challenge, giving the ref no choice but to show a second yellow card. He'll miss the July 21 match against Vancouver Whitecaps with his suspension.
Drew Conner    M/D    Chicago Fire
Conner was sent off in the 70th minute of Saturday's 3-1 loss to FC Dallas.

Fantasy Analysis

Conner earned a yellow card in the 39th minute and was given his marching orders for a late challenge in the 70th. He will be suspended for next wee's fixture with Toronto FC.
Eduardo Sosa    M    Columbus Crew
Sosa subbed on in the 70th minute of Saturday's match against NYC FC and received a red card in the last minute of stoppage time in the 2-0 loss.

Fantasy Analysis

Sosa was shown the red card when he committed an off-the-ball foul on Maximiliano Moralez by throwing an elbow. He will now miss an opportunity to play next match with a red card suspension.
Roman Torres    D    Seattle Sounders FC
Torres (ankle) will miss Sunday's match with Atlanta, Matt Pentz of the Athletic reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Torres suffered the injury while playing for Panama in the World Cup, which hasn't quite healed up and will keep him on the sideline. It's unclear what his return timetable is at this point.
Clint Dempsey    F/M    Seattle Sounders FC
Dempsey will miss Sunday's match with Atlanta due to a sore groin, Matt Pentz of the Athletic reports.

Fantasy Analysis

Dempsey and Roman Torres (ankle) didn't travel with the team as they work through their respective injuries. Seattle will be forced to rely on Nicolas Lodeiro as their main attacking option with Dempsey sidelined.
Khiry Shelton    F    Sporting Kansas City
Shelton underwent succesful surgery to repair a torn meniscus and MCL in his right knee and will be out two-three months.

Fantasy Analysis

Shelton had been disappointing with two goals from 16 league appearances. This comes even with SKC on track to set a new regular season scoring record. With Shelton out, Diego Rubio is set to absorb the minutes first but Felipe Gutierrez is a good option to pick once he returns from his groin injury.
Victor Vazquez    F/M    Toronto FC
Vazquez (quad) trained fully Thursday, according to Gareth Wheeler of TSN. His status is still questionable to play Saturday against Orlando City.

Fantasy Analysis

Vazquez has been out for a couple of weeks with a quad issue and has been missed in attack. Without him, TFC are winless and continually fall behind in matches unable to finish their chances. Vazquez should be able to make a full return July 21 against Chicago if he doesn't receive any setbacks.
Chris Mavinga    D    Toronto FC
Mavinga (hamstring) trained fully Thursday according to Gareth Wheeler of TSN. He's questionable to feature Saturday against Orlando.

Fantasy Analysis

Mavinga has been out since the end of May and would be a welcome return to a backline beset with injuries in recent weeks. Look for a full return July 21 against Chicago.
Ilsinho    M    Philadelphia Union
Ilsinho came off in the 17th minute of Wednesday's match with Chicago due to a probable groin injury.

Fantasy Analysis

Ilsinho became the second injury casualty in the match and was replaced by David Accam for the rest of the match. It remains to be seen how serious the injury is, but Ilsinho should have plenty of time to recover with his next match not until June 21 against LA Galaxy.
Kevin Ellis    D    Chicago Fire
Ellis was forced to exit in the 13th minute of Wednesday's match with Philadelphia due to an undisclosed injury.

Fantasy Analysis

Ellis was replaced by winger Elliot Collier and a formation adjustment helped to fill the gap. It was an unfortunate moment for Ellis, who came off a two-assist performance in his last match against Vancouver. It does not look like Ellis will miss a lot of time with this knock, but he is likely questionable to feature against FC Dallas on Saturday.
Jonathan Spector    D    Orlando City SC
Spector missed training Tuesday with a hamstring injury, according to Jordan Culver of prosoccerusa.com.

Fantasy Analysis

Spector left early in their last match against LAFC and has evidently suffered a more serious injury. If he is unable to play, Chris Schuler is a potential replacement Saturday against Toronto.
Lamine Sane    D    Orlando City SC
Sane (quad) missed training Tuesday, according to Jordan Culver of prosoccerusa.com.

Fantasy Analysis

Sane missed the LAFC match last Sunday with this injury and has yet to fully recover. Amro Tarek is the likely starter if the seemingly injury-prone Sane can't play.
Scott Sutter    D    Orlando City SC
Sutter (thigh) trained separately from the team Tuesday, according to Jordan Culver of prosoccerusa.com.

Fantasy Analysis

Sutter missed their last match against LAFC with this injury but is showing signs of steady improvement. He is not the strongest fantasy choice with one assist in five matches on the season but is a likely starter if healthy Saturday against Toronto
